“Here I am, never having directed a film before, dealing with kids who’ve never been on a film set before, and we’ve got the ocean — which can’t be controlled and is such a key factor in the story — and we’ve got almost no time to do it,” he recalls. “I thought, ‘I’m probably going to fail miserably, but I’m going to have a great time trying.’ ”
thanks DPS this is the first article that Simon had really given his point of view and thoughts about the film its mostly been short extracts. Thanks for the the read I enjoyed it please keep me up to date. Thanks again.
Like everything he does Simon has put his heart and soul into this film. He so deserves it to be a resounding success and we will soon find out how it's been received. I am nervous and excited for him and goodness only knows how he must be feeling!! I love that quote he uses from Martin Scorsese never a truer word.
So far, seems the reactions to Breath are very positive.

Steven Weintraub @colliderfrosty Biggest #TIFF surprise thus far is how fantastic Simon Baker's directorial debut is. Titled 'Breath' it's based on popular Australian book.
As I watched 'Breath' I couldn't believe it was Baker's first film. He truly knocked it out of the park. Hope he makes more movies. #TIFF17

VMC @VincenzoCheung 7 hil y a 7 heures BREATH at #TIFF17 is a sharp and confident directorial debut by Simon Baker with stunning surfing shots and vulnerable performances.

palace films @palacefilms this is a really terrific, moving, beautifully crafted and performed film. Australia: watch out for BREATH next year. and for those boys.
Literary Mask @literarymask Simon Baker's directorial debut #Breath was exquisitely shot and scored, and so naturally performed. A lush & moving piece of art. #TIFF17
Knowing how passionate Simon feels about this film and the work he has put into it I'm so pleased for him and it's great to see such good reviews. Hope to see him direct more films in the future!
I feel so proud and happy for Simon. It must be so rewarding for him to see all his hard work and dreams justified. I know it won't appeal to everyone but I do hope the film gets an international release.
I know it won't appeal to everyone but I do hope the film gets an international release.
I hope it will, in fact I'm pretty sure it will be release not only in Australia, but in Europe too (nobody knows for sure of course). For the North American market, I read somewhere it was on a pre-sales list? But you're right, it's obvioulsty not a block-buster movie appealing for massive audiences. It's independant cinema, andI like that!
I'msorry I will have to go back to them at a later date as I have a very bad ear infection and cannot hear anything very well at the moment but thanks for the links.
