Lenacr, I saw Simon on the big screen in Margin Call, and it was a great experience. I also remember admiring him in The Devil Wears Prada, even though I didn't known who he was at the time.

As for the age thing, I think there are an awful lot of young 50 year olds out there.

When I went to see Margin Call for the second time it was limited performances, and the only one I could manage was 11am at the 'mother and baby' showing. I am 67 so it was a bit of an ordeal, but no one turned a hair, and the little ones were all beautifully behaved. I will be going to see I Give It A Year-I've sat through horror films, zombie films, space films, all genres I dislike and found that Simon brought something unique to every performance. The only one I probably would never watch again is "Women In Trouble"-a bit crude even for me. So have fun at the cinema all you youngsters of 50, and if there's an old soul with a paper bag over her head sitting in front of you, sighing every time Simon appears on the screen, don't laugh, it might be me.

I don't think I would want to see Simon in the nude so hope it's the other guy. Some of the magic would be lost I think. I managed to watch Sex and Death 101 despite the language but we only got to see his backside and that was enough for this old fogey.

well said!
I didn´t see all those movies in the cinema (don´t even know if they were shown over here...) but I couldn´t resist to watch even those horror-, zombie- and spacefilms on dvd just to see Simon - and, this to be said: in the end even "Land of the Dead" had something for me: I enjoyed giggling Simon in that +interview so much!
I will watch this one asap and make my own opinion about the film, about Simon (he will be great, no doubt).

Juney:
"Why oh why can't we have a comedy without the four letter words and the full frontal nudity".

by the way: where does this COME from? who said when or why "I give it a year" would be like this? I hope it won´t, though. Wouldn´t have thought Simon would have...well, you never know.

We already saw Simon naked in "Book of love" (oh, and also in "Secret men´s business", I guess...) and it was okay, wasn´t it? Always depends how they do it, IMO. If it is somewhat necessary for the role/character and shown with the required respect and dignity it should be okay I think. Wait and see.

As for the 'crude', I would prefer if this had to do with the other guy - Rafe Spall - not Simon!

My guess is that this type of humour will mainly be from the supporting cast - particularly Stephen Merchant who's probably playing an eccentric friend - as an actor he's a sort of modern day clown who's well suited to that type of comedy.

Thanks Fran, again! May I say also what an amazing bunch you all are! Mossibecca, Tassie, Juney, Wanda, you made me laugh so much! Thanks!
Land of the Dead: Watched on DVD with a lot of fast-forward on the zombies and rewind to re-watch Simon's scenes!!

Google Translate version of the French interview previously posted as a scan (I've tried to improve it a bit):

While Season 4 of The Mentalist is breaking records every week on TF1, gaining over 9 million viewers, without regret, Simon Baker left the palms of Los Angeles, where the series is filmed. Leaving, temporarily, his favorite sofa, his DS vintage and the small numbers of mental persuasion of his character, Baker gave himself body and soul to the seventh art. An exclusive TV Magazine went to England on the set of his next film, I Give It a Year (by the producers of Four Weddings and a Funeral and Bridget Jones ), due for release in spring 2013.

With his blond hair and nonchalant elegance, Simon Baker goes well with the atmosphere of Four Weddings and a Funeral of his new film. The Australian embodies the seductive American of the British comedy I Give It a Year ("I give them a year"), about the first year of marriage of a mismatched couple. About one hour from London, in Oxfordshire, at the heart of the Church of All Saints, the actor attends the scene of a very British romantic exchange of vows. Behind his glasses, the hero of The Mentalist observes his compatriot Rose Byrne (Damages), who, like him, appeared in the Australian series for teens Heartbreak High.

Between takes, the actor says he is happy to take a little distance from Hollywood and the series that revealed him to the world. "As I did recently with the thriller Margin Call, my object today is to continue to act in films when I have a break in the filming of The Mentalist. It is very important for me to challenge myself and not to settle into a routine. This is what makes the beauty and interest of the job, right? I want to show I can do something else other than Patrick Jane!"

Simon Baker is more relaxed than on the set of The Mentalist
On this European shoot, the actor is more relaxed than when we had met on the set of The Mentalist. Off the field, on the sunny square of the twelfth century church, Simon Baker takes his time and even makes small talk with three bridesmaids, the extras. Delighted, they turn around, ribbons and wreaths in their hair blowing in the wind. The model father of three is never far behind the actor ...

The lunch break is prolonged, the grass in the Gothic Cemetery invites a siesta ... Simon Baker appreciates the change of pace! "On The Mentalist , the schedule is very tight. We produce an episode in a few days and I'm in almost all the scenes. Here we make a movie of one hour and forty minutes, and I'm not the hero. One can have fun between shots, the cast is fantastic, the script is very funny, what more can I ask?" he says, feasting on strawberries and cream.

Returning to the set, we point out to him a white Citroën DS, parked there, decorated with ribbons for the wedding. Falsely snobbish and smiling, he starts with his usual sense of repartee: "Oh, you know, I have my own on The Mentalist , so ... !".

Until we see Baker on another day at the theater, viewers will first discover the dark side and sexy Patrick Jane in the upcoming finale of season 4 of the series: the hero falls into the arms of the intriguing stunning Canadian luscious Emmanuelle Chriqui ...

The movie is a bit disconcerting. First of all Simon had to gain weight to portray this middle aged professor and the reason he tries to get himself in shape is the fact that his wife prefers a younger man. Simon was not quite in all his glory but he is deffinately a true red-blonde.

Thanks Sweetevy. I don't really understand Simon's humorous comment about the white citroen, it doesn't translate well, are you able to explain it any better?

they were alluding to the fact that it was a great car and he just jokingly mentioned that he wasn't impressed since he had his own at home (on set of course).

OK thanks sylvia, I'll change the wording because probably a better translation is "Oh, you know, I have my own on The Mentalist , so ... !"
