Isn't Kirov where the ballet is?
We took a family trip to Russia a few years back, but we went from St. Petersburg to Moscow by boat. Fantastic trip - we enjoyed the scenery, the sights, and the people. |

I think it was Roger Ebert who said in his review that Adrian Grenier (who played the 'good boyfriend') and Simon s hould have switched roles because Simon's character came across as the more likeable of the two. |

So the "grumpy old man" of Canberra referenced Simon again in another article. He apparently got his comeuppance by the readers of the paper. If you want to read the new piece I have included the link below. Otherwise I have posted a small snippet from the article.
"With its mind ajar this column will probe what Redmond's democratised public art experience has been. But if we sound elitist and aghast we admit to still being a little ashen-faced (like a Snowy owl) after the recent National Gallery/Tom Roberts/Simon Baker imbroglio, much written about here (and polarising lots of our usually middle-of-the-road readers).
In the wake of that imbroglio we continue to make the horrifying-for-us discovery that only a very few Australians have ever even heard of Tom Roberts (arguably the greatest of our painters) while National Gallery "Ambassador" Simon Baker (a star of US TV dramas) is a household name in almost every household we poll. Perhaps, if popular Simon Baker does any amateur sculpting, the democratisation of our public art choosing process may see by popular demand our city festooned with his popular works. We could see Belconnen Way lined with them.
Perhaps one day, centuries hence, archaeologists will dig these original Bakers up and will marvel at them. Meanwhile, archaeology students from The Australian National University began on Monday to uncover the history of a former penal colony and military site in Tasmania dating back 160 years."
It seems like despite the push back he got, he still is a turkey. And still pokes fun at Simon's popularity.

I loved Simon's character in The Devil Wears Prada - hated his eyebrows in that movie though. Despite the fact that he was definitely a player and an opportunist he just seemed like a much better match for Andy than her boyfriend. And let's face it, who wouldn't love to have their first Paris experience with a gorgeous bad boy? Sign me up right now .......... |
