My favorite episode!!! biggrin

Season 1, Episode 6
Red-Handed (11 Nov. 2008)

The severed hand of a hotel casino owner is found on the California-Nevada state line. While the CBI suspects it's a mob hit, Patrick uses the opportunity to win big by counting cards.

Highlights

- Opening scene where they are gathered around the severed hand. I love the interaction of the team here. Jane being his most charming self. Rigsby explaining to Van Pelt why its ok to bet on body parts. Van Pelt looking horrified at the men. Jane flashing that smile when he wins the bet. Oh and the wind blowing through Jane's hair. I can't stop looking at those golden curls!
- Jane explaining about how casinos are designed similar to state of the art animal husbandry. I like the way Jane was explaining it in a non-judgmental way. He seemed amused and excited actually. Never stopped smiling. And I found myself smiling along.
- "Hi, I'm Patrick." I love that he introduces himself to the dealers.
- Cho replying to the dealer lady about her accomplice, "Started singing like Menudo the minute he sat down". Does anyone here still remember Menudo? Weird reference that got me thinking what was the writers' target audience.
- Jane giving gifts to the team. Again, I love the team interaction especially, Cho and Rigsby. I love that Jane seemed so happy giving his team the gifts. Lavishing gifts to what is probably to him, his only family. Also, Tim Kang should return that Guinness Book award he got because he smiled in this episode. More than once.
- Jane's memory palace. We find out that Jane ran with carnies when he was younger. I still don't understand why Lisbon and Van Pelt can't accept the gifts. I liked that the boys didn't.
- the bald guy called Jane Goldilocks biggrin
- I liked that Cho and Rigsby are so interested in how much Jane has won and Cho called him up to help where to find the dvd.
- Jane playing cards is really fun to watch. He is in his element. I the final game, how did Jane cheat? I saw him do something with the cards. I wonder if Jane uses his skills to speculate on stocks too.
- Jane donating his winnings to charity and to the dealer lady. The nurse handed the case to her saying it was given by a really cute blonde guy.
- It's also interesting to see how Jane really can't sleep anywhere else but his couch in the CBI office. Jane wears pajamas. How cute.

Lowlights

- I didn't really see anything I didn't like. Maybe the daughter allowing herself to sleep with another man because her husband ordered her to. I just find that hard to believe.

Overall, this is really a fun episode that I never get tired of watching. Great team interaction. Jane being in his element and having so much fun. Plus we got to know more about him.

Again we see how Simon is such a consummate actor. That day, it was very hot and windy where they were shooting, and Simon had a bad cough yet never complained about the 11 retakes they had to do on the ground because the wind kept shifting the hand prop. There are a few editing errors which are easy to catch but overall a nice introduction to another side of Jane. Yes, the pajamas really threw me. Simon probably made that choice since we never seem to see too much of Jane's body, that's why we are so fascinated by his hands, sexy.

Really? Wow. Didn't know that. Thanks for that bit of trivia.

There was in interviewer who remarked that she was on set that day to talk to him and remarked how professional he was, never lost his cool even though he was ill and the desert weather was not cooperating., continually shifting the props. Of course, aas with any shoot, one does stand around idly most of the time, waiting for a setup, retake, spacial changes etc.

sylvia5993, I like to research sites and see what I can find. Is there a chance you can tell me where you go to find these things. I find them all very interesting and would like to know more

I'm sorry, I'm not sure where I read this particular one, it was after all 4 years ago. Fran seems to find and post all pertinent ones but this was probably on another site here in the U.S. That interview was quite candid, he is after all an Ozzie, but also very funny. What I remember is the kindness Simon showed to all crew members in that hot uncomfortable long day and his diligence on the set, since as the principal actor, he wishes no one to be burdened with attitude from the "star".

Is my eyesight failing or is the cross Lisbon is wearing in the first season diffferent from the one in the fourth. Since Jane made allusion to the fact that her mother had given it to her we noticed it as she is fingering it but in the first eps of the first season, it seems to be a smaller one. Anyone catch that.

Yes, she has worn different crosses. However, I don't believe the cross was ever attributed to her mother until this season, although there had been lots of fan speculation in that direction. Show apparently felt a need to pick a more noticable, older looking cross.
