I thought Owain's interview on Channel 5 was very badly done, and not worth watching. But I found the interview on Radio 1Extra quite entertaining (apart from the music that wasn't to my taste). It started about half an hour into the show and lasted just under 20 minutes. Here are transcripts of a few clips, to give you a flavour:

"It’s funny because I think the show has different connotations over here, thanks to Alan Partridge, you know, ‘no way mate, you’re a mentalist!’, so I remember having a conversation saying ‘are we actually going to call it The Mentalist in the UK, can we actually do that?’"

"I play Wayne Rigsby, which is funny from a British angle because most people will know the character Rigsby from Rising Damp, and I was a huge fan of Rising Damp. Originally I think the character was going to be called Wayne Gilzean, who’s named after a 1970s Tottenham football player, because our creator Bruno Heller is a Brit. So we all chuckle at that in a very HaHaHa we’re very British way, none of the Americans understand these names."

"Tim, who plays Agent Cho, and I always joke that we want to start a spin-off series called The Sensualist, and it’s a guy who flirts his way through crime scenes going ‘I can see the homicide victim there, by the way your hair looks amazing, what are you doing tonight?’ – The Sensualist only on CBS."

"I know that the show was pre-sold into syndication to TNT, which generally means – the golden number as it were is 100 episodes, so that takes you into Season 5. I know Simon recently signed a 7 year deal. I’d quite like it to run for 79 years, and maybe we’ll just be all on strollers and wheelchairs, and I’d be really OK with that. So if people are OK with just watching it for the next 70 years, let’s make a pact right now."

The interviewer then asked didn’t he think there would come a time when he’d want to give this up.
"Give up working on a show that I love, with these brilliant people? I genuinely love it, I’ll be honest with you, every year that goes by, we’ve got a tight group of people who we really adore, we make a show that we’re proud of, and a show that audiences are responding to, and I see nothing but good in that, I’m just so lucky to do it, I really really am."

The Mentalist's Owain Yeoman on Next Season

http://uk.eonline.com/uberblo....on.html

Excerpt:
What was it like on the set when Simon Baker directed, and would you like to direct yourself?

Simon is very smooth and so it went well. I think the thing he learned is that it is very difficult to direct and star in a show. It nearly killed him. But from my perspective it was great. We'd shoot and he'd look around and ask, "Do you want another one? No? Right, OK, we got it. Let's move on."
I would love to direct and express myself in that way and I think doing it on The Mentalist would be a great way to try my hand at it. I'd be among friends and if you're going to fail, that's the best environment to do it in. I do a lot of writing, although I would never be presumptuous enough to tell the writers what to write or where to go with a script. But it's actually a very open and creative set. Bruno encourages collaboration and the sharing of ideas, and he'll tell you point blank if your idea will work or not.

Mainly chat about Owain himself, apart from this:

You’re in The Mentalist – should it have changed its name for the British market?
Our three top executive producers are British and went into it with their eyes open but it’s geared towards a US network. There’s the initial amusement about the title – we had the definition of ‘mentalism’ as the tag on the show for the first two series – but I think everyone knows what it means now.
