LF : there are 10 million viewers for his show, our guest tonight is Simon Baker, that you surely know under the name of Patrick jane the mentalist, good evening SB
    SB: Bonsoir

LF: it's a pleasure to have you , do you speak french?
    SB: not at all

LF: you are here in Paris and you met your fans who are impatiently waiting for the fourth season which is going to air on TF1 , let's watch a sneek peek, as we've seen, the third season ended with an incredible scene completley different from your character's nature, are we going to understand what really happened in the fourth season?
SB: yes we will learn more about what happened, and about the consequences of the shooting, it is true that it's not something we expect from my character but he's looking for vengeance so

LF : what is interesting is that the show has its biggest number of viewers here in France, more than 10 milllions for the last season, does your complicated character particulary seduce and attract the French people
SB: yes exactly, he is human and authentic and also has a strong sense of humour, but i can't say what exactly attracts the viewers

LF: what have you personally brought to that character, you're a sporty person and you are a father
SB: definitely a subversive sense of humour, I like to have fun in my life and also at work so it's perfect for the character and maybe a little bit a sense of the absurd as well

LF: it has been said that you like France very much, is that true
SB: yes ! I've come to France probably 8 times, now things are a little bit different when I come, but yes I like France. You know being an Australian it is always interesting here, and every time i come i am just blown away by the beauty of the country, not only Paris which is very beautiful but also the countryside and the coast

LF: it has been said that the shooting of one of the mentalist's episodes is going to take place in the Basque country - is that true, can you confirm it
SB: in the Basque country i am not sure, we have talked about the idea of shooting in France but i can't confirm it yet

LF: do you watch what is going on in France - we have just finished a Presidential election, are you interested in politics ?
SB: slightly, what is very interesting right now is that it's a country that is completely changing with a new President from the social party, and with the whole economical situation in Europe it's is going to be very interesting

LF: right now you're in a movie called Margin Call, now that you do movies will you try to leave the Patrick Jane character or are you going to stick with it for many more years
SB: i'll stick with Patrick Jane as long as he sticks with me. But it's true that i always try to find new opportunities and different characters, and now i can do more things for myself and not only for the studios, because i have a show on TV that is very successful, so i can afford to be more creative in choosing my characters in the movies

LF: thanks a lot patrick jane - words in french maybe for the ending?
SB: j'aime beaucoup la france " i love france very much"
(looks at the people off camera and adds) Everyone is laughing.

Then I think he wants to say "Je reviendrais" (I'll be back), and instead says "Je redeviens" which means "I become again" (well the meaning is close but it's the wrong verb!) but his french pronunciation is sooo bad (charming nevertheless) that the announcer just says "Je quoi ?", so he gives up laughing.

    Lf: thank you very much
