Why oh why do they always focus on his accent?!!!! He's lived in America for quite a number of years now and pretty much most of his work has involved doing an American accent!!!! Oh my God, I get seriously fed up of that question on his behalf! He must groan inwardly every time someone mentions it. I know I do!! surprised

Me too AgentM....there are so many interesting things to talk to him about, and they go with that......I mean, I LOVE his accent, but if I only had that limited time to talk to him, I would want to know so much more about him and his work and his hopes for the future......OK, I am going to gracefully step down from my soap box now!!

well it's a shame they always focus on the accent. While I love the Aussie accent, I love his American one even more. (and I'm from the states) What I love best of all are his inflections and his voice in general. He really has amazing control

Maybe they keep asking about his accent because people don't know him through the tabloids and gossip columns like they do all the scandal driven media whores. Unfortunately, while people sometimes know who "the mentalist" is by sight, they don't really know his name that well in the states. I'm astounded that his Instagram account has only about 6200 followers right now and Gwenyth Paltrow who only has 2 pics on her account and opened it about 2 weeks ago has nearly 60,000. But then, it's the states. confused

To be fair, Simon joining Instagram was done in a very low profile way compared to Gwyneth Paltrow. She must have issued a Press Release because the 'news' was covered by several newspapers and websites including in the UK. Also she's using her own name as her handle which probably helps.

Paltrow is simply more famous than Simon.

But I agree with you all, I can't understand why he's always asked "oh and you're australian, aren't you? How do you do an american accent… blah blah", or asked about his sexy look (and hair :o) in a lot of interviews. Really low quality questions, for an actor who lives in the US for 17 years now, and has 20 years of acting career. Has any journalist tought questioning him about his work, job, acting skills, view about TV, films, projects? It's beyond my understanding.

The problem is really with entertainment journalism in general. Journalists don't often have the time or interest to do proper background research, and so in an average interview the questions only deal with the person's current project, and the best known facts about them - which in Simon's case is his Australian background and the sexiest man status, since he's a pretty low profile celebrity.

I'd love to see more in-depth interviews with Simon, but unfortunately since he's a 'boring' interview subject (read: he's unlikely to give any juicy scoops in the interview) those are going to be rare. I think I remember reading somewhere that even paparazzis have trouble selling pictures of him because he never does anything scandalous biggrin

Can I volunteer myself right now to go and interview him? I would, just once, like to read a quality in-depth interview with him. I do have the time and I'd happily pay my own way! tongue

good points, Fran. Simon's roll out of his instagram was very low key as opposed to Paltrow.

I agree with DS and ruuger: It's really the fault of the entertainment press business that thrives on the shallow and shocking. It must be really hard to hold on to one's soul in that environment. Kudos to Simon for dealing with it all so generously and patiently.
