What an awesome afternoon Ms 12 and I had listening to Simon Baker talk about the movie Breath, adapting Tim Winton's book to a screenplay, choosing the location and now living in Denmark.
For someone that does not believe they are very articulate he spoke really well and was very humble.

"Simon explained how he had been given a copy of Breath some years ago and the emotional impact it had made upon him. Loved the way he described Tim Winton as the literary equivalent of the Australian cricket team!
He spoke about having dinner with Tim Winton and it seems obvious that they were in tune. He also described driving into Denmark and instinctively knowing that it would be a perfect location for the movieI don't know if he knew at the time that Winton had set Breath in a fictional Denmark!
He was generous with his time and came across as a self-depreciating person, witty and sensitive as well, becoming quite emotional when talking about the Australian film industry, pitching for an international audience and authenticity.
He was also very diplomatic when asked about small towns and the inevitable developmental issues, having grown up in a small town and seen it change with progress. I think he was referring to Byron Bay. One member of the audience said that Simon was not his idea of the fictional Sando, which amused me because in my mind, Simon is the perfect Sando.
He also spoke about locations, the team they had drawn together for this project, the logistics of filming in a remote location etc. Will be fun seeing them filming around Denmark Shire.

I would agree totally that the real Simon Baker is nothing like Sando, personality wise, though physically he fits the bill perfectly. He does, I think, understand Sando, and it's called acting, folks. lol

My guess would be that he identifies with the young boy who "comes of age." He's a little long in the tooth for that part...

thanks DSP, also on Albany's page (https://www.facebook.com/AlbanyWesternAustralia/photos/a.587758547917100.147722.587736834585938/1374466385912975/?type=3&theater)
one attendant said that filming starts on 11th April and that most locations remain a secret.

I agree with you Hayseed, he said himself that he identifies most with Picklet, but he definitely fits Sando's physical description.
