Thanks so much Peithon.
We have our first answers wink and I understand that shooting this episode has been done with a great emotion after 6 years.

This sounds promising, so I believe now the end of the RJ-era doesn´t HAVE to be the end of The Mentalist necessarily!!

But I doubt, Simon really wants to do more than (eventually) a seventh season. We can hear it out of every interview that he is up for something new.

Are you sure it's true? They are hiding almost everything about what is going to happen since the beginning of this season to keep the surprise and now this? It's very weird. Sorry, but I don't believe it.

The TVGuide scans are behind the spoiler tag. As well as the show's new direction, the article also reveals a spoiler about how the RJ story ends, but doesn't reveal RJ's identity.

I have to say, I'm really excited about the show's future direction, I think it sounds great.

Sorry Fran
On the contrary, I think that "the Mentalist" without Red John will not really be any more "the Mentalist".

"A rebirth for TM, a chance to go in a new, fresh direction" ??? Bruno Heller is going to have to surpass himself to interest the spectators after the end of RJ.

I hope it but I really wonder about the continuation.

Ok, it's true. I'm with Evy and Juney. I don't think the show needs Red John to continue, the end of Red John means a change for Jane's life but is really necessary to change the show completely? I don't like the idea. I want to see the evolution of these changes, I need it, I don't understand the reason of this time leap. I'll have to wait and see but I don't like too much.

I have to agree with Fran...I was one who DIDN'T mind the Red Johns angle, it always added a certain zing to the show, but I would like to see what Jane does afterwards, what kind of man he becomes.

I agree with you Fran, it sounds exciting to see Jane in new situations and enviroments. And RJ ending will be very intense, can't wait to see Simons acting. His words in the magazine are very promising in that regard.

IMO, this new direction is not really a problem regarding The Mentalist "identity".
The character of Patrick Jane is strong enough to keep the show going. Complex, rich, tragic and funny at the same time.
His carny past, his multiple talents and charming, annoying, extravagant personnality, his twisted relation with Lisbon, authority, rules, powerful people, women etc… make a huge material for stories after Red John.

And don't forget, a large part of TM worldwide success is due Simon Baker attractiveness alone (as Robin said many times). I don't think we have to worry much, at least for the last part of season 6, and even for a 7th potential season.

The new directions gives much more space for eventual new season than if they stayed with old concept.

I'm not worried about the new direction, I think it can be good. Red John is not the show, he's part of the show. But don't you feel after reading the article that it's going to be too fast? There is an empty room between the old and new The Mentalist. Do you know what I mean?

I think when they do a time leap, an initial reaction is often disappointment because you can't help but wonder what you've missed. I've seen it done on other shows and it was a bit of a shock to the system but I've soon adjusted my ideas and realised that it was actually a good way to move the story forward into new territory without boring the audience with the mechanics of getting there.

I'm sure there are some people whose main interest in the show is Red John, but for me the backbone of the show is the fascinatingly complex Patrick Jane and Simon's brilliant portrayal. Of course I'm interested and curious about Red John, but I'm more interested in how he affects Patrick. And even after he's gone I think he will still be a presence because the tragedy won't have gone away, it will still be there in Jane's past and always intruding on Jane's life moving forward. As was said in 'The Guardian', the past is prologue. So I'm very interested to see how Jane's future unfolds, and excited about the acting challenges this planned scenario will give Simon. I just hope there will be sufficient American viewers who are invested enough in the character to want to continue following his story, and also perhaps some who will come back to the show now its going in a new direction.
