Thanks Ivana. It's always good to hear that the show is doing well. And the article is surprisingly accurate, which is nice.

You want to say, I guess, that French people have exquisite taste about Simon and The Mentalist ?

Because DS Pallas is absolutely right : "well it depends"
Sometimes I'm not particularly proud to be French tongue

On Twitter today:
On the Television Critics Association Press Tour 2014 ( #TCA14 ), Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, was praising Bruno Heller for the longterm execution of Red John storyline on The Mentalist, and for reinventing the series and the main character.
"It is no small feat that this man created multi-year mythology w/Red John story that kept viewers engaged" she said. End of Red John era on The Mentalist reflects "how much we've changed" and support for EPs' vision.

Is it a good sign for a possible TM renewal, or just a way to say "Well you did good. Now, bye!" ?

Yes, Evy and DS_Pallas, that's exactly what I meant, they/you are the greatest fans of Simon and TM and I like you for that :). I don't know and don't want to know anything about the politics

DS_Pallas, this could be good news for renewal, Tm did really good job this season regarding popularity and numbers, but Simon said in one of the recent interview that TM team already knows when and how the series ends, but he couldn't talk about it then.

Thanks Ivana happy

I have some difficulty to explain the fondness of the french for TM.
Must be something rooted to european culture, and unconscious references to a certain type of fictional characters French particularly appreciate. Patrick Jane is a complex and dramatic character, with a romantic side (in the literary sense).
I thought his similarities with Holmes would have made TM a great success in the UK — Heller is British after all, but apparently it did better on the other side of the Channel! We have a tradition of novels with popular romantic heroes (like in Victor Hugo's novels, or Honoré de Balzac) often tortured by their past, rebellious (Jean Valjean in The Miserables), obssessed with revenge (Monte-Cristo), or lovable thieves and conmen (like Arsene Lupin), and Jane had bits and pieces of them inside him.

To make it short, he was not the usual american archetype of the TV series hero.
Add Mr Baker's charm + a 3 piece suit + a Citroën DS car… and the things gelled between Jane and us froggies! cool

It does make sense, but I think popularity and viewing figures are also very dependent on which TV Channel its aired on. For example, I believe I'm right in thinking that TF1 is the most popular (most watched) Channel in France, whereas in the UK Channel 5 is the least watched of the 5 main Channels and none of its shows get high viewing figures. So whilst in the UK, The Mentalist viewing figures don't look good, it's actually one of Channel 5's top rated shows, but if it aired on BBC1 or ITV it would be more widely known and have significantly higher viewing figures.
