Guess we got proof that so called filler episodes do better in the demo shares than more "fan" episodes. Fans complain about them, but it's the standard case of the week epis that keep the show on the air. It certainly makes sense, casual viewers want to see Jane up to his old tricks.

Season-wise, that's not really accurate. This here is basically the first episode this year to have that great ratings in that time slot (10:33), and I think a lot of it is owed to "Red Dawn". I doubt any of the same will switch off next round, because this was a great one, so possibly this is the start of the ratings upswing we need.

Well we've had two episodes that could be considered "filler" episodes "Not One Red Cent" (2.1) and Cherry Picked (1.9). Aside from the premiere (2.1), Red Dawn did fairly well. Devil's Cherry did a 1.6 and poor Blood Feud (which was a Rigsby story) suffered from being aired at 11pm (and the fact it pulled a 1.5 is impressive). The data is of course, way too small to draw conclusions from. It was just an interesting phenomena. It may not bear out as the season progresses, it's really just fun with numbers.

I'm hoping Red Dawn did indeed pull in some viewers who decided to hang in for a 10:30 airing the next week. Hopefully that means that the share will go up as the weeks go on. After midseason the numbers should go up too as people who DVRed go back to watching live.

I knew what you meant by filler. Thing is while "Devil's Cherry" aired at 22:30 PM, "Not One Red Cent" aired 22:00, so all I'm saying is it's connected to the time slot and not the episode nature. How much people enjoyed an episode can't be seen in its own rating, but that of the next (which is also skewed a bit by good or bad promos). The fact that Red Cent got a good rating can be attributed either to the air time, to Cherry or to the promo. We don't know which.

I think the general public is easier accessed through filler, but they don't know what is until they watch, right? Promo alone would've made out Devil's Cherry and Blood Feud as just as much filler if you aren't familiar with the mythology (realizing who Charlotte is). Last year, the show pulled about equal ratings for filler and mythology, with the numbers rising a bit for whichever episode came after an RJ appearance.

As far as I'm concerned, the ratings are getting better. 1.9 for the 22:30PM time slot is very good in comparison and whether that's to be ascribed to "Red Dawn" or the season in general remains to be seen. Hopefully the latter. This season so far very much deserves it. wink

Ok ratings I guess, given the contending Football and Family Guy celebration. The ratings are still improving. Slowly, but improving.

We are getting a new Good Wife on Dec 2nd, but a Mentalist repeat after (Fugue in Red). I already feel like a second class citizen having to chase my favorite show and dragging myself to work early Monday morning. Way to go CBS. At this point I'm only watching TM on CBS and nothing else on that station. GRRRRRR. dry

Just as well, Dec 2 and Dec 16 are football double header days again. Looks like we'll get Panama Red on Dec 9 and then it'll be midseason break.
