Yes, Five seem to struggle to find a good audience for anything. If TM was on BBC or ITV I'm sure the ratings would be 2 or 3 times what they are. But it will be interesting to see if the situation improves now that Five is under new ownership. I see that they are changing the name of 5USA to 5* and the TM repeats are being shown there. This might be a good move, because US shows generally don't do well on British TV - last year TM was the most watched US show on UK TV. But I think TM is not a particularly typical US show, in fact with Bruno Heller at the helm and Simon in the lead, it seems to me that the humour tends to be more British than American (yes I know Simon is Aussie, but close ties to Britain). Five need to find a way to convince more people to give it a chance, and maybe by not labelling it so clearly as a US show, they are hoping to do that.
Also I think Five have scheduled it in what is pretty much the most competitive time slot of the week, probably because they know it will still perform for them. Then this season they had the repeats on Saturday night which split the audience. Last season the average audience on Fridays was 2.58m compared to 2m this season. With Ep 10 being a season high, I'm very eager to see last night's figures - I hope they've managed to sustain it.
