If Patrick ever manages to catch Red John, do you think he should kill him? Cast your vote above. (Sorry but only members can vote).

Hi. Good question. When i saw s1 i straight away knew what i thought and yes he should but as the series gone on i gone the other way. The way Rj been toying with him i think thats what he would want jane to do if he ever caught him because in death at janes hands Rj has won. But i think with lisbon with him he won't do it. But also in memory of wife and child. Amazing how course of a show can shape the way you think.

I really hope Patrick doesn't kill Red John...I know he seems hell bent, but fingers crossed by the time the series comes to a close or just that investigation plays out...I hope Patrick will have worked with the team long enough to realise his life is worth living and what his colleagues do day to day is worthy...he lost his family in truly tragic circumstances...they would not want him to lose his life, to make amends...I'd actually like to see Lisbon take Red John down, saving Patrick from a grisly end...and for Patrick to be grateful...if that makes any sense...

Yes.

I don't want him to 'cut him open and watch him bleed' but I do want a finality to the story which a
prison/death sentence won't provide. I also think that Patrick should die at the end - in the process of
saving Lisbon perhaps - we've had enough clues from Patrick (and Simon) that he is only alive to
get RJ - and he has already stated that he would be happy to die in order to catch him. Lisbon didn't
believe him but I do.

I don't think it's possible for Patrick to have a happy ending, the guilt he feels is too awful to live with.

My vote is YES, but Who is or WHAT is REd John?

I don't think I am making any spoiler saying that Red John seems to be a network of people rather than a SINGLE person.... mainly in the third season.

WE'll see...

Interesting comments, they’ve given me pause for thought.

I’ve always believed that Red John has a network of disciples, a sort of cult. But I do believe he’s the leader and the driving force. So for me, his death would provide a satisfactory end to the series.

I hadn’t thought about it being a triumph for Red John to be killed by Patrick, but I like that idea. I think Red John loves to corrupt people, its a sort of power play, so yes perhaps he would feel quite elated to have forced Patrick into becoming a murderer.

I’ve also never considered the possibility that the series could end with Patrick’s death. But I really don’t want him to die, or end up in prison with a life sentence. Both those situations would be too sad for me to bear. I need a happy ending. smile

My ideal scenario is pretty much the same as Kath’s. I want Patrick’s journey to include him coming to terms with his guilt, and finding redemption through constructive actions rather than destructive ones. And for him to realise that he values his life and the people in it. I know, its quite a journey, but we still have another 4 years to go, so anything is possible. biggrin

But Red John has to die, otherwise it would feel like there was unfinished business. And I would be very happy for Lisbon to kill him, with justifiable cause so that she wouldn’t be prosecuted. And yes, I also hope that Patrick wouldn’t resent her doing that, but would feel grateful that he hadn’t had to resort to murder.
