E Street Hits A Dead End
But father-to-be Simon's bowing out in triumph
What was meant to be a night of celebration turned into a wake for the cast of E Street, which was axed by Network Ten on Logies eve.
Simon Denny's Logie - the only one this year for the series - sat forlornly in the middle of the table, serving as an ironic reminder that you can win and lose, all on the same night.
While the inscription on the award read: "Most Popular New Talent", it could well have read: "In Memory Of E Street".
What concerns me about all this is almost 200 people are going to be out of work and that is pretty daunting," Simon said.
"The axing is also disturbing from a personal point of view. One minute I'm winning this award and being placed into a star category, but in 10 weeks' time I'm going to be unemployed."
But while his acting future hangs in the balance, Simon is already focusing on what could well be the role of his life - sharing parenthood with girlfriend Rebecca Rigg.
The former on-screen lovers, Simon 23, and Rebecca 24, are expecting their first child.
"I'm very excited about becoming a father," Simon told TV WEEK. "I'm over the moon and Rebecca is absolutely glowing."
