1994 Unknown Mag - Prince of Soap

    Unknown Magazine – 1994

    Prince of Soap

He’s Home and Away’s newest pin-up. He was Australian’s Prince of Soap. Everyone loves him, but who exactly is Simon Denny?

    Bits and Bobs

Describe your bedroom: “It looks out onto the harbour. It’s reasonably organised and nice and cosy. I’ve got a variety of duvet covers which I change depending on my mood and the weather. At the moment it’s blue tartan.”

Another Aussie pop star?: “Oh no, I’ll never make a record – not with my voice!”

On being voted Australia’s Prince Of Soap: “I was sort of embarrassed to be labelled the Prince Of Soap but it made me realise that people appreciated what I did. But it also put pressure on me, having to try and answer to it.”

    Love ‘N’ Stuff

On girlfriend Rebecca: “I don’t like to talk about our relationship. We knew each other before we were both in E Street and she started in E Street two weeks after I did. Next question.” Er, right.

On becoming a dad: “I’ve become more serious about things now, I don’t have the time to be mucking around any more.”

On romance: “My idea of romance? I’m not gonna tell you because then it wouldn’t be romantic any more. What’s the most romantic thing anyone’s done for me? I was once given 24 pink garden roses which was nice.”

Your best chat-up line: “I don’t believe in them. When I was single I always thought it was best to be straightforward but without being rude or arrogant.”

The Future: In Oz, Simon has left Home and Away and aims to be a ‘serious actor’. Immediately after leaving the soap he shaved his head (so he wouldn’t be recognised by the public) and refused to give any Summer Bay related interviews. So what’s next for the cheerful chappie? Who knows?
