Simon Baker's Little Man Friday
Woman's Day, 17 Dec 2001
by Lawrie Masterson
Simon Baker is really going places in Hollywood, but not without his family's latest edition – son Harry.
Harry Friday Baker was born on a Wednesday. His parents, LA-based Australian actors Simon Baker and Rebecca Rigg, were keen to continue what has become a family tradition of unusual middle names for their children.
"We didn't know what to name him until we had to leave the hospital and that was a Friday,” says Simon, star of the hot TV serries to be seen on the Ten Network next year, The Guardian, and the new movie The Affair of the Necklace, with Academy Award winner Hilary Swank.
"We've got three now, so we're out numbered,” 32-year-old Simon quips, pulling at the skin under his eyes to indicate his recent lack of sleep.
Born on September 19, Harry, whose godmother is Simon and Rebecca's close friend Nicole Kidman, has an older sister, Stella, eight, and brother, Claude, who is two and a half.
"My daughter's middle name is Breeze, just because that triggered something for me, and Claude's middle name is Blue, as in Bluey, because it's patriotic.”
With The Guardian, LA Confidential, Ride with the Devil and period drama The Affair of the Necklace under his belt, Simon is firmly establishing his name in /Hollywood. But he has no time for the glamorous lifestyle usually associated with success in his profession.
On a rare day off from his TV series, Simon is at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills promoting the show and The Affair of the Necklace.
"I have a wife and three kids,” he says, smiling broadly. "This is me socialising right now. This is it, I'm sorry. You want to have a beer with me?”
