Someone on the IMDb board went to a screening of Something New and 4 of the actresses from the movie were there. This is what was said.

I went to a SAG screening of this movie before it came out in theaters, and Sanaa and her girlfriends answered questions afterwards. We found out that there were in fact scenes featuring Brian's family (which is why you see Cliff from Cheers in the wedding scene and you're like - what? Where did he come from?). There were apparently scenes with Cliff as Brian's dad that were left on the cutting room floor because they thought it either didn't really add much to the film or made it too long. There was actually not much discussion of the on-screen chemistry. However, all of the women admitted to being smitten by Simon, most of all Golden Brooks from "Girlfriends." Taraji told the audience how whenever Simon was on set how Golden would hide her face and say "oh my
god, he's coming! Is he looking at me? Oh my god!" It was pretty funny.

They all said that he was extremely cool and interested in everyone, and Taraji also did a funny impression of his accent as he asked them about "Black" stuff.

They said he was really charming and easy to be around. They also said they interviewed other major stars for the role, and Simon was by far the only actor who came in without pretensions and seemed to click easiest with Sanaa for the role.
