there is flashback in the novel where the beginning of Sando and Eva relations is described. To my mind it must be very entertaining and moving.
Yeah, I seem to remember a few pages of Eva telling Pikelet about their early years together. But I wouldn't be surprised if their backstory is omitted from the film, or only lightly touched on, because I get the impression that Simon is more interested in telling the boys coming of age story. And to be honest, I think I would prefer that, because I think it would be a better reflection of the essence of the book.
