I don't understand spanish and google translate is funny,is anyone willing to translate?

Here is the translation, Ivana, although it's made with some pieces of other interviews.

“I don’t look sexy because I’m off the market”

Simon Baker (“The Mentalist”) says that his character is closer to the end than the beginning.

According to Simon Baker the main rule of a good gentleman is courtesy. This 45 year old Australian actor is the face of Givenchy’s new fragrance, Gentleman Only where he embodies the elegant man. Veteran on the fame game, Baker has been decades seducing from the screen for his good looks and for his attitude of I don’t care about what happens around me. Lead actor of “L.A. Confidential” and “The Devil Wears Prada”, he owes his big success to the series “The Mentalist”, where he’s been successful on television for eight years and to which, as he tells, he would be about to say goodbye.

-What are the rules of a perfect gentleman?

-The basis of elegance depends on how you relate to others. One person can be elegant sitting in a corner with no contact with anyone, but you can’t be a gentleman sitting in that corner. Courtesy is synonym of gentlemanliness and not necessarily toward a woman.

-Elegance is also synonym of seduction...

-Seduction, sensuality, attraction, mystery, trend, it’s a combination of elements that arouse our interest.

-Gentlemanliness and courtesy are part of your education?

-I think so. Respect and good manners have always been in my family. At a table I fill the glass of anybody before mine, simple as that. Those gestures are what make a man to be a gentleman. All I know in that sense I owe to my mother.

-American men have forgotten to be gentlemen...

-L.A. is not a good example of the education in America. Here is every man for himself for being the first one and no matter if you have to step on the neck of anyone in the effort.

-To live in such a competitive city bothers you?

-Yes, overwhelms me. We have a very equal society in Australia. You can’t sneak in a row.

-Australians usually say what they think...

-It’s a very authentic society, we try to call things by their name. We live in L.A. but we stay at least two months a year in Australia.

-What do you think about the analogy of Patrick Jane, which you play in “The Mentalist”, with Sherlock Holmes or Columbo?

-From the first episode I’ve built Jane up thinking in Pagliacci, in the Tramp, in Chaplin and Peter Sellers. But he has definitely something from Columbo. From Sherlock Holmes has a lot because both are observant detectives, they don’t belong to the police and they work on their own.

-It’s time to say goodbye...

-Let’s say that I’m much closer to the end than the beginning. When the characters stop being fresh and start to repeat deserve some break, but let’s leave the answer in the air.

-What would you say it has been the secret of the show’s success?

-The lead is surrounded by characters that work for him to stand out among them. Jane is the hero, he’s not a tough guy, he’s mysterious, different, he doesn’t like violence. But he’s not a coward, because he’s not afraid of anything. He’s a brave man who doesn’t like to use guns.

-“The Mentalist” travels around the world very well...

-The show travels well because is pure entertainment. It has humour, intelligence, sex, all that is part of the international language. When something amuses and entertains you end hooked.

-What do your family think about the title you have recently gained as “one of the sexiest man in the world”?

-My wife is still my wife. She is very critical with me and when she sees the list she always says to me “let’s see when you get the number one because you’ve been three years being the number three”. I’m determined to get the number one for her. My daughter who is twenty years doesn’t matter, although she doesn’t understand why I’m on that list.

-And do you think that deserve to be on that list?

-I’ve just turned forty, I have three kids. I don’t look sexy because I’m off the market.

Great clip BasqueCountryEuskeraz. You are so lucky to had him! Wish he came close to my area. Or at least somewhere to Germany.

About this article ...he just turned 40? Well, I guess that was a wile ago. The one who wrote the article should have at least checked his age!

Must be a constant concern for a lead actor/producer like Simon

I sometimes feel that 'stars' of shows are on a knife edge after a few series of popular shows. Especially if there is doubt about a further series as there was in the case of TM. Do they try for parts in different shows or films of don't they. I wonder at which point Simon and Robin knew that they had more episodes. Simon does have two boys to put through school and college after all. Life is a bit precarious for actors.

The interview is not original, it's a mixture of old questions and old answers extracted from old interviews. Anyway, I did the translation for people who don't understand Spanish, but I know it's not worth it.

It's always worth it June. Thanks a lot. But I'm just a little irritated about articles like that who mix old interviews and claim that they did the interview. And I guess they might have never even met Simon. What at least they could do is check out the basic facts about Simon!

Totally agree, Tina. I feel cheated when I see all those "interviews?", it's a kind of fraud.

Thanks 258pce, nice little interview, I like that Franck Ragaine asks different questions to the norm so prompts a different type of response from Simon. It's probably worth posting on the Home Page but I can't do it at the moment.

thanks to bbb, it is now posted on latest news. If you watch until the end there is a link to another snippet from the same interview where he talks about Senator John McCain being a fan and who will miss PJ more: Simon or his fans, and about the French film industry.

Juney - I agree with you; actors do live on the edge. There is no such thing as security - they live by their wits and a final public. As far as I know, they only have "contracts", no jobs unless one is hired by "contract" through one of the studios or networks. No health insurance, no social security - nada - that I am aware of. I am reading James Garner's memoirs (lord I loved that actor) and it is interesting the garbage the studios pulls on people.

I also have to remind myself that not only the actors, such as Robin and Simon, wait for months for decisions like the kind they just went through but also the writers, gaffers, video people, makeup, etc, that also have jobs (and income) caught up in the unneeded drama. I remember when I saw the text that the ™ writers had all been released to go look for other jobs. Like Simon says (no pun) each series aired means a minimum of 150 families' income. i hate the reality shows - the much cheaper shows to produce; I wish they would go away but they won't = too many viewers watch that garbage.

I'm in agreement with you Kabuky- reality shows can fall off the edge of the earth and we would not be any poorer for their absence.

I so agree! Reality shows are becoming more and more famous in Germany and I ask myself how deep we have fallen if we like this "crap". Really?
People prefer THIS to a good tv show like TM? It gets better ratings than all the quality tv shows ...really sad. I've never watched reality shows and I guess I never will. Than I'd rather watch an episode of TM for the 100th time.

I don't want to upset anybody who loves reality. It's just my opinion.
