Thanks for all the updates! Ivana, I think that I read the full text online without being a subscriber when it came up in a news feed. There was nothing interesting about Simon in the article. If I can get a link that works I will post it here. |

I really disliked that grumpy old man and his comments about Simon. I hate art snobs. I thought that the whole purpose of art was for it to be appreciated by as many people as possible. You don't need to know anything about art - or fine art - to be able to do that. You simply need to allow it to to touch your soul and, as a creative person himself, why isn't Simon the perfect person to invite everyone to come and see the paintings and get something out of them.
I lived in the Washington, DC area for most of my life and when I was a kid, one of our school field trips every year was to the National Gallery of Art which houses some of the most famous and valuable paintings in the world. At the end of every visit, our tour guide wouldn't ask us which painting was the most valuable - our tour guide would ask us which painting was our favorite. From an early age, I was taught to believe that art is for everyone and it doesn't matter who created it or how much it was worth. All that mattered was that it touched your soul. That grumpy snobby old man made me angry!!! His article conveyed everything about art that art galleries themselves are trying to get rid of ........... that art is something only for those who understand brush strokes and painting techniques. |

I live in Russia. And only due to Simon 12,000 members of our fan community discovered who is Tom Roberts. We learned a lot about Australia, we even translated "Breath" into Russian, though it was not easy. This novel was not published in our country earlier. So, Mr. Journalist is completely wrong in the essence of the article. In addition, his tone is too rough which is impermissible for cultural person, as he considers himself. We all wish Simon success in his new project and we hope that this wicked and mean old man does not upset him. At least, it was ridiculous to compare Simon and Justin Bieber. Excuse me, if I made a lot of mistakes. My English has become much better due to Simon and "The Mentalist", but it is still far from ideal. |

Redbird, I agree completely. This fellow seems to have missed the whole point, which was to attract more people to the gallery send reduce such snobbish attitudes. A review like this would have exactly the opposite result. |

Isn't Kirov where the ballet is?
We took a family trip to Russia a few years back, but we went from St. Petersburg to Moscow by boat. Fantastic trip - we enjoyed the scenery, the sights, and the people. |
