They don't allow to vote several times in the same day, but you can vote once a day, I'm doing that.

I think this French article is saying that Simon was voted "the sexiest man of the year" in a poll by '50 minutes Inside' in partnership with 'TV Mag', getting 29% of the votes.

It's amazing how he is so well thought of in France, but in UK he is almost unknown. Perhaps the new film will change all that. Hope so. wink

It's the same in Spain. The Mentalist is the most watched foreign series on TV but nobody talks about Simon Baker. Well, thanks France for giving us all this "european" information about him. At least, we are not alone.

Short Simon interview for french magazine Femme Actuelle

Interview Femme Actuelle (in french)

And I've made the translation for my dear non-french speakers! (feel free to correct my English)

Simon Baker: meeting with a gentleman

By Isabel Catélan and Virginie de Tarlé, December 21st, 2012

Face of the new Givenchy men's perfume, Simon Baker, passing through Paris, answers our questions. Just like gentlemen Only, a smart and wooded fragrance coiled in a virile bottle-flask, the actor and star of the Mentalist unveils all facets of his charm.

Simon Baker and Lady's perfume

Q: What kind of fragrance entices you in a woman?

A perfume which underlines her personality.

Q: Is there a women's fragrance that evokes something for you?

(Simultaneoulsy delighted and embarrassed smile from Simon)

When I was still a minor, I had a girlfriend who was, let say, a few years older than me and who used essential oil of patchouli as perfume. She put on a lot of it really, almost too much for that matter. Therefore each time I had seen her, my mother immediately knew it… It is a striking memory!

Simon Baker and his vision of the Gentleman

Q: In your eye, what is the height of elegance for a man?

Courtesy.

Q: Be a gentleman, what does it bring to mind for you?

This notion is rather a matter of aspiration. Be a gentleman especially means having good manners.

Q: Is there a dress code according to you?

It does not request to wear particular clothes to be a gentleman. A man with any kind of clothes on can be a gentleman, even in surfwear on a beach in Australia (laughs). He has to dress the way he feels comfortable.

Simon Baker and Man's fragrance

Q: What kind of perfume do you wear?

A refreshing fragrance with earthly notes.

Q: Do you remember your first perfume?

Yes, it was a present from my Canadian girlfriend at that time. Yes, I am more than forty years old and even if I am married for 20 years to the same woman, I had some affairs previously. Definitely, we were on a trip in Thailand and she offered me a patchouli perfume.

Q: What does it mean for you to be the face of a French perfume?

For me, an Australian who was brought up in the countryside, it's a honour to embody a French brand of haute couture. The French man is so elegant!
Personally, I don't follow the didactes of fashion, even if I'm interested in it. I like some style but I am not a slave to it.

Simon Baker… indiscretions

Q: You pay regular visits to France, do you speak French?

No, unfortunately. My wife and my daughter speak French very well, hence, when we are in Paris they are the ones who speak and I, I can't be bothered to start to learn.

Q: Have you bad taste sometimes?

Yes! but it's a secret. Ask my wife!

Great translation and great interview. Thanks, DS Pallas.

P.S. As I suspected (based on something Bruno Heller once said), I don't think Simon ever had any difficulties getting girlfriends.

Thanks so much! I laughed when I read the part about his mother knowing when he had been with that girl by the smell!

Hehe, well I guess Simon has always wanted a woman rather than a girl even when he was young! But I can see how his mother would have known that smell, you wear too much patchouli every one will know it. (I could go on a rant about that scent. A tiny bit of it is very sexy, but too much and you smell like an incense factory. Or Berkeley.)
Sigh, I bet that Gentleman Only fragrance is way expensive because it sounds like it's something that would smell good on my man.
