Wow, so jealous! But such a lovely story kabuky! It's so nice to hear how kind and patient he was when you could easily excuse being tired and cranky! He is only human after all and we all have those moments. Poor celebs though. If they're having a human moment they get written off as rude or something. (Obviously some of them are rude and demanding but I bet most of them are just normal people) |

You are so lucky Kabuky, a hug from our favourite man, Oh My!! Knowing that I'll never meet Simon makes me a little sad but it's lovely to hear from people who have met him and to have confirmed what a nice, caring man he is. |

One never knows who one might meet if given the right opportunity; I certainly never thought I'd meet the man let alone get a very warm, sincere hug. Just a really nice human that practices what he preaches-"let a smile be your umbrella". He is instantly likable and unassuming yet was very much the "go-to" person on the set. He obviously has authority on the set but chooses not to use it. Crew members both male and female interacted casually with him all day long (a long, hot Friday) and all of the staff treated each other with respect (mirroring the way Simon "the star" treated everyone); crew had fun, enjoyed what they were doing and worked like a well oiled machine, problem solving all the while in the unique outdoor environment. One could tell who the regular crew persons were and who were the temporary security and extra hires as the temps were busy attempting to throw their weight around while the regular crew treated fans with respect and answered questions about lighting, production, sound systems, etc. When a local SEE's candy store gave Simon a luscious 5 lb box of premium chocolates, he was more than gracious. WHen she left, he took ONE piece and set the rest down to share with all the crew. A very nice, normal, laid back individual who seemed to look out for everyone on the set and liked by all. |

Thanks kabuky, I remember reading of your amazing meeting with Simon and others while they were filming, I seem to remember it was Season 3 Episode 1. You provide great insight into Simon and when I created this site I was tempted to post some of your comments in the 'Close Encounters' section but didn't like to do it without your permission. Is it OK if I now post the comments you've made here as an entry in that section? |

There's no Emmy nomination for Simon or another member of The Mentalist. It's what expected but I would have liked to see Simon finally on the list. Damn it! |

Breaks my heart! He is so deserving! I wonder if it is because he was nominated once before! |

Absolutely! I hope the pics are still there. What can I say - I truly fell in love with this man that day. Liked him before, loved him after. I wish there were a way to clone the man - I would want to be first in line but am sure others would be there before me. What a great hubby, dad, brother, son, friend, co-worker he is...I am sure he has faults but I have not seen any.
BTW, Smells luscious - like a freshly bathed damp baby even after working all day in 85 degree heat. Amazing....I don't think even Givenchy could bottle that.

Ditto. I read a great comment from an industry insider that basically said the best actor in the industry will not receive any nominations if they work in a crime procedural. It does not matter HOW good an actor is; outside of the first year of airing, they will not be nominated. I gave up hoping for Simon receiving any attention after reading the comment. I was watching him last night - he has SUCH good instincts - the slight looking off to the side, the shrug of the shoulder, the incredible NUANCE of his performances. AND he is SO DIFFERENT in all the roles he does. Jeff in SMITH is SO DIFFERENT from NICK who is SO DIFFERENT from Jane. My favorite role so far - Something New. He is very much like that character....so sensitive, so caring, so down to earth, so sensitive to the reactions/emotions of others....I WANT this man!! (Sorry - a single senior's moment... )
BTW, he was VERY curious about his fan base. I mentioned to him that there was a group (went by Baker Babes at the time) all over the world - had he heard of us?? NO!! WHAT is the average age???? (obviously aware of age brackets and advertisers) - I guessed about 30-35 yrs of age. And WHERE is this group?? All over the world, Asia, Europe, USA, especially in the UK (at that time). He was so cool!!! I had a VERY tough time making eye contact - He WAS very much trying to maintain mine! And rubbing my arm the entire time (I got the feeling he must do this with his kids) LOL - two shy people trying to communicate. He succeeded, I had the difficult time...
