Lisbon has her own issues with loss as well. She didn't come into her relationship with Jane without her own trauma and damage. There is a reason that Lisbon has never really been in a relationship before - either committed or casual - and that she's never been in love before. The one thing in Lisbon's life that has always been there for her is her job - her identity as a cop - and I think that, throughout all of the conversations that she and Jane have been having over the past several episodes, all that she hears is Jane asking her to give up being a cop. I think that that's why she's standing her ground and going on and on about the random possibility that she could die getting hit by a bus, die in a car accident or die from standing in front of an oncoming train. She's so caught up in what she needs to be to maintain her comfort zone that she isn't hearing Jane say that he can no longer be the one, through the schemes that are a requirement of his job with the FBI, to place her life in danger. That's very different than asking her to stop being a cop.
Actually, until this last episode, I thought that Jane was much more able to navigate their new relationship than Lisbon. I really liked the possibilities of their role reversal with the start of their romantic relationship. This last episode with Jane's lack of concern for his own safety through me for a loop. I really had thought that he was past all of that. |

I wasn't at all surprised when Jane went charging into the house as a hostage. As he said, "it doesn't hurt him if he dies" The only pain that Jane doesn't want to face is the fear of losing Lisbon to a violent end. I get that. As a parent holding my child's hand as he has a seizure or as he woke up from brain surgery, I would have traded places with him in a heartbeat. I think that it's human nature to want to take the hurt or risk yourself, rather than see it happen to someone you love. I am hoping though the writers have wrapped it up well for us. I would love to see some sort of acceptance from Jane that he can love Lisbon but can't hold too tightly. And that Lisbon gains insight into Jane's fears on a deeper level and treats them with respect and compassion. We shall see. The end is unfortunately in sight. *wipes a tear, sniff* |

First look: 'The Mentalist' wedding For The Mentalist's Patrick Jane (Simon Baker), Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) has gone from colleague to fiancée. The couple, in a photo exclusive to USA TODAY, tie the knot in an outdoor wedding in the CBS drama's two-hour series finale (Feb. 18, 8 p.m. ET/PT).
"It was sweet. It was vulnerable and touching," Baker says. "It was very personal, that moment where he turns in the field and sees her, just the two of them alone."
Tunney, accustomed to seven seasons of Lisbon's more practical on-the-job wardrobe, "felt uncomfortable wearing high heels and a dress. But it was beautiful," she says. "I feel the finale is a departure. It's like The Mentalist giving you their greatest version of a romantic comedy. I think it totally works."

It looks like the lovely spot Jane was looking at in the last episode. Could he possibly have purchased that charming albeit a bit rustic cabin on the lake where he can also plonk down his motorhome. |

Can you give us the last ever Mentalist spoiler? –Sal That’d be fitting, since I happened to be granted Bruno Heller and Robin Tunney’s last ever Mentalist interview, pegged to this Wednesday’s double-episode finale. So here goes: Before Jane and Lisbon can even entertain the idea of heading down the aisle, they first must outwit the psychic-obsessed serial killer dubbed Lazarus. “It’s not someone you’ve met before,” series creator Heller assured me. “And as Robin pointed out to me, I don’t think we’ve done any other serial killers over the years as strongly as this one, except for Red John, so it’s very much a ‘full circle’ kind of event.”
