I've not heard Simon say before that he sometimes uses music to connect with memories (emotional or physical) to help immerse himelf in a role. I think that's very interesting and wonder if he uses that to help bring authenticity when portraying emotion, which he does so well.

But I'm not sure how trustworthy it is, from a translation point of view and also because some information in this article, whilst not being totally inaccurate, is reported in a misleading way (e.g. the reference to drama school). Having said that, it could just be that the introduction is not totally researched but the actual interview is reasonably accurate - I think that's often the case.

This recent batch of interviews all seem to be promotional interviews for Givenchy, so it's very possible that the interviewers were actually given a list of suggested/allowed questions to ask (since Givenchy, who'd have been organising the interviews, would want the focus of the stories to be on their campaign rather than, say, The Mentalist). From what I've heard from friends working in media, this happens quite a lot, especially with movie promotion etc.

I remember reading an interview of Simon in some Finnish women's magazine (unfortunately I can't remember which one, or I'd try to track it down) in 2009 when he'd just been voted Sexiest Man on TV. I guess Simon had been doing a lot of interviews that day, because according to the interviewer, his first words when she entered the room had been something like "if you're going to ask the same questions as the last person, I'm walking out". It wasn't clear if he'd been serious or joking, but the interviewer just thought it was charmingly honest and a refreshing change to the usual 'scripted' interviews smile

Interviewing must be so boring and personally imposing. The interviewer mentioned he had regressed to "bloody" etc - horrid to be on best behavior hour after hour with no beer in sight. But then, he now has enough money to ensure his family's future for a generation or three so well compensated for it!

Le Figaro mistook the location as overlooking the Atlantic. Pacific Palisades, where the shoot took place, overlooks the Pacific of course, not far from the beach Simon surfs often. Great article nevertheless.
