He was so cute! That is the famous crocodile outfit! I remember Simon talking about that experience in the Paleyfest 2009, it was one of the funniest moments with Robin and Owain joking about that. |

The Finnish Metro has an article about Simon. It seems to be combined from old interviews, but I can do a quick translation later.

EDIT TO ADD: The translation:
Fast track to the top. Simon Baker of The Mentalist used to hold an angry one-man show to his mother as a child. Now his talent is admired by an audience of millions.
In The Mentalist, Simon baker plays the occationally arrogant former tv-psychic and current detective. In real life, at least in the mornings, he's a nice, scruffy-looking dad whose blond hair sticks out in all directions. This adorable man can't help laughing when asked about his sexy image. "I just turned 45. I've been in the business long enough to know that talk about appearances is part of teh deal. I accept the praise humbly, but usually I just joke about it. My daughetr was embarrassed by my image when she was a teenager," baker explains in Los Angeles.
Acting wasn't an bvious career for a boy who grew up in the small Australian coastal town of Balline.
"In the beach community people were more interested in sprts than entertainment. I started surfing when I was seven. I was an athletic and smart kid, but I couldn't focus during lessons."
At home, he had problems with his step-father. His mother ELizabeth had divorced her first husband when Baker was two. The boy wouldn't see his father until he was an adult himself.
"My childhood is like a bad B-movie. One day I may write a memoir where my formative years are an interesting but complicated chapter."
The first audience for Baker's theathrical stunts was his moher.
"I would skate down the street If I knew that my mother was watching out the window, I'd deliberately fall down and then lay down on the ground until she came out screaming. It was a childish and negative attempt for attention, but it worked."
Baker used to ear pcket money as a kid by fishing and doing construction work. His life was changed by an ice cream ad and a part in two music vides in the 90's. In the video for Euphoria's "Love You Right" he dances shirtless. In Melissa Kautz's "Read My Lips" he does push-ups.
"What happened in the 90's, stays in teh 90's," he laughs.
A true stroke of lick was when in his twenties, baker was cast in the Australian soap opera E-street. In was while filming that show that he met his wife, the former teen actress Rebecca Rigg, who is now 46. After a few years of dating, the two had a daughter, Stella (21). Few years later they moved to Hollywood and baker was cast in the hit movie LA Confidential. This was followed by threee years in the TV-show The Guardian.
The family later grew by two boys, Claude (15) and Harry (13). They have famous godmothers. Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts.
"To me success means first and formost being able to prvide for my family and pay the bills. Mychidlren sometimes visit the set, but they don't find my career especially glamorous. I do long days at the set, and that time is away from them."

There is a new interview published here on theinterviewpeople.com webbsite, but you have to create an account (it's free) to be able to download it on pdf format. Apparently it's for publishers, editors or writers. If someone can do it?

Oh if only I had that kind of money I would be in there with quite a hefty bid right off the bat! What a fab charity choice too!
Maybe we should have a whip-round?... |
