Another translation of article from Russia, GQ, August 2016m thanks to Lariki71 and to sarapetarrini for finding it :)

Russia, GQ, August 2016
Simon Baker talks about his favourite scents and his first work as a film director
(translation from Russian)
GQ: - What would you like to do (or to have) most of all at the moment?
SB: - I’d like to return to my usual schedule again.
GQ: - And how does it look like?
SB: - Honestly speaking, I almost forgot how it looks like. Last week I finished filming work on a movie (“Breath”) as a director and I’m really exhausted. Next week I will start editing it. It will take ten-twelve weeks including postproduction. I hope to come to myself after that quickly.
GQ: - What does it mean for you “to come to yourself”?
SB: - To get up at 8 a.m., go to work by bike and come back at 6 p.m. All is simple.
GQ: - What is relaxation for you?
SB: - To sack out and simply do nothing, maybe to read a book sitting in the garden.
GQ: - Which scent is your favourite?
SB: - Sandal wood – is a very calm and earthy odour. I like a smell of summer morning on a beach too. As a perfume I prefer the Givenchy perfumes.
GQ: - How do you keep you in form?
SB: - Actually, I don’t get stuck on it at all. Sometimes I buff up and sometimes I go swimming. But it’s only a kind of leisure time for me, not a way of build muscles.
GQ: - Which is the most dangerous thing you did in your life?
SB: - My biggest risk in life is the film I directed. It’s psychologically a very difficult experience for me.
GQ: What is your attitude to fashion?
SB: - I don’t like go shopping actually. But since working with Givenchy (I enjoyed working with this House, which has a rich aristocratic history), I has got feeling for fashion. It reflects different spirits, sometimes not only individual, but also a common one. It describes a condition of community. |

Thank you Ivana. He HAS to say he prefers Givenchy fragrances. But I really like them too. Got my Dad Parisian Break for his birthday and it's perfect for summer because it is a light scent and it smells great.
Just had that kind of relaxation in Switzerland..sitting in the garden reading a book. Definately something very good to calm down and feel good! |

Thanks for the translations, ladies. Interesting that making Breath was psychologically challenging for him. I'm looking forward to this film very much. |

Debut novel ‘Man in the Corner’ optioned for film 6 July 2016 Film producers Simon Baker and Rebecca Rigg have optioned the film rights to Australian writer Nathan Besser’s debut novel Man in the Corner (Vintage), ahead of its publication on 1 August.
The novel tells the story of David, a seemingly ordinary man who becomes involved in an identity-theft crime. The publisher says the novel is ‘part psychological thriller, part enthralling character study’ that is written ‘in the manner of Paul Auster’. ‘At each turn of the many characters’ imperceptibly intertwined journeys, questions are raised about the irreversibility of time,’ says the publisher.
Baker, who is directing the film adaptation of Tim Winton’s Breathe, said of the novel: ‘Man in the Corner is brilliant modern noir, an intriguing thought experiment and addictive read.’

Sounds intriguing! Thanks for the info Ivana. Perhaps another directing role in Australia for Simon in the future! That would be something to look forward to. Nice to see Rebecca involved also! |
