I've never known a celebrity who is so happy to pose for photos with fans like Simon, he seems to take it all in his stride no matter where he is or what he is doing. It just confirms how normal and "down to earth" he really is. However, having said that, I still wouldn't have the courage to go up to him for two reasons...1) fear of rejection and 2) appearing to be too intrusive on his private time!

I feel the same, Bee. I was once close to one of my favorite actors, he was shooting near my city and he was with two people in a coffee shop. I was there with a friend and I wasn't able to say anything. I don't like to bother people, I'm very respectful and I feel like an intruder in this kind of situation, as you say.
However, I have an autograph from Naomi Watts. I was in Toronto, at the Toronto International Film Festival and she was there. But it was different because there was a lot of people asking for autographs, so I was one more and she was prepared for that.
But sincerely, if one day I met Simon Baker, I promise I would ask for an autograph and a photo with him. |

I guess I'd never ask Simon for a photo or autograph if I'd meet him in a restaurant or on the street. It's a too private situation and I don't want to bother people. They need some privacy, too. I might say "hallo Simon" and I'd gave him for sure my warmest smile, but wouldn't talk to him. On an official event it's another thing. They are kind of there to meet fans and they know they have to give autographs and take pictures. They usually want to sell a movie or tv show, so they are there to promote. and this goes with it. I'm a little shy so I have a hard time to walk to somebody and start talking to somebody I dont know. And with Simon, I don't know if I could say a word ... Bee, me too, I would fear rejection. And this would be really hard for me. So I'd rather don't approach famous people if I see one. Simon is really sweet with fans. And he takes a picture with a fan even in private situations. Just a very special person. |

I completely agree with you. I think its rather bad manners to approach someone during their private time, and I'd never do that. But official events are a different matter, although I would still probably hide at the back. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4th August cpackkk (Caroline Packard) "#Simonbaker#mentalist#castdinner#ritzcarlton" Laguna http://instagram.com/p/cnE925wMjn/# |

I totally agree with your policy on this. Private time is private time. It may just be a couple of minutes to us, but if everyone did that, he'd never have a moment's peace. All that said, every situation is different and you'd have to play it by ear. You could probably tell right away if he didn't really want to be bothered vs he was okay with being approached. I would most likely not approach, however, just to be on the safe side. I look at it as a form of respect.
But it is hard situation when you see someone you admire. Years ago I saw Katherine Hepburn in an antique shop and it was all I could do to stop myself from approaching her. I didn't, and I'm still glad I didn't. But it was hard.
I love that story that SB told about one time when he was coming home from filming someplace in the US midsection - Kansas or Oklahoma? He said he was beat tired, sitting at the airport, and some lady and her young son come up to him with a camera. And he's totally not in the mood for it and thinking "oh no, not again - I just want to go home" and he's making declining motions.
And then he realizes she just wants him to take a picture of her and her son. She has no idea who is he is - she just wants someone to take a picture for her. And he feels like an absolute heel. It's a funny story. But it also points out that he's not always in the mood to be approached.

I agree with Hayseed and you other guys. Private time is private. I would probably look for a few seconds not really believing and then move on. I'm so shy I don't think I could even approach him at a public appearance, so I'd lose both ways. |

15th August @JalyssaEliasen WB sightings of the day: Literally the moment I talked about Simon Baker and The Mentalist, he appeared next to our tram. And, seeing that he was spotted by my guests, he exclaimed, "Sorry, guys!" and sprinted past in his suit with a script covering his face. https://www.facebook.com/permali....4044692
Not sure about validity of this one - @McIntyreRant In Virgin Lounge in LA...Simon Baker here but not talking about his new ANZ campaign. It's coming, rumour has it. |
