I didn't guess the killer, I was more suspicious of the Doctor than the Nurse. I thought the episode was pretty good, I enjoyed it, and as Bee said, there was a nice balance of humour and sadness. Also there were some lovely close-ups where I thought Simon looked really well.

I loved the start with the tigers, the way Jane said 'Hello Kitty Kat' and running faster than Lisbon. Other scenes I particularly enjoyed were the one with the daughter in the kitchen, we really saw Patrick making a connection with her. And when Jane smoked out the widow, especially when he twirled the lighter like a gun (I love little details like that), and also the final part of that scene when Jane says 'Its a miracle'.

The Cho/Summer backstory gave us some interesting developments - I'm not sure if Cho was right not to confide in Lisbon, but I think he probably was as she's his boss, and he seemed determined to kick his habit. Whether or not this includes kicking the Summer habit remains to be seen.

And finally, Rigsby seems to be coming to terms with being a father and perhaps a little unexpectedly, his situation seems to be bringing him and Grace closer again.

I loved this episode. Yes at the start Llisbon saying she surprised at his calm with the tiger on the loose. He says nothing to worry as long as he can run faster then her biggrin

I absolutely loved his trick with the smoke in trying to catch the wife out. So funny how fast she ran and the look on janes face. Hilarious. But the interrogation was fun when he said he figured she was not cancer patient cos she still had the eyebrows and when he said to her after she would be going to jail is 'well at least you'll have your eyebrows', that cracked me up big time biggrin

I too though it was the doctor so was surprised about the nurse. The end when she was talking about helping to ease pain after all suffering that would come really hit me and made me think about my dad again just like The Red Mile. Its not nice way of thinking but you do dwell on these things when you know someone is suffering terribly and all you want to do is ease the pain. Very emotional scene for me and well acted.

I was rooting for Cho to say something to Lisbon and went 'blast' when he did'nt. He should have and this is where i am starting to think summer is not such a positive influence. I actualy was not to keen on the relationship this episode, especialy when she popped one of his pills as if it was nothing. And letting him sleep in knowing how devoted he is to his job. I saw another side to her i did not like. Is it just me.

To me there was a double wake up call for Cho and Rigsby. When Cho fell asleep at stakeout. First Rigsby should not have gone in alone till he got reply from Cho. And second that Cho fell asleep. Rigsby nearly got shot then Cho got there in time save his life but could have gone the wrong way if Rigsby got hit first. You could tell this was the moment of truth and Rigsby realised how much he wants his baby whereas before it was becoming irritating. And Cho realised he nearly got a friend and partner killed because of his addiction. Which led him to lisbon but the good thing was he decided to deal with it himself and quit which is typical Cho that its up to him to change. This was also some great acting by these two which i was happy about along with Grace and her support of Rigsby.

All in all a great team effort which was lovely. brilliant episode.

In Summer's defense, I think she was trying to help him. She's noticed since they met that he has back problems. And I think she totally innocently thought that she was helping him by letting him sleep in. As for taking the pill, there's little defense, but possibly ignorance. A lot of people honestly believe that if a doctor gives you something that it's totally safe and won't harm you at all. And of course, being a pain killer, it was just like an aspirin or something. Also, let's face it, Summer is a working girl. She's a step above a street walker but that doesn't mean that her clients don't do drugs. She doesn't come off as someone that would use them regularly, but she may very well be used to having to take what's offered as part of her services. It may have been purely instinct to do so. Though my likely theory is the ignorance of the power of the pain killer and her maybe having a headache or something and figuring, well Cho takes them, they're fine.
As for the episode, I really liked the smoking out, the eyebrows line and when Jane asks an appalled Lisbon if she feels better for charging the wife with fraud. (I'm totally with Lisbon and her disgust with this woman).
I never thought about that shootout being a wakeup call for both Rigsby and Cho. Cho clearly. But you're right, him staring at that sonogram and telling Grace that the baby was what mattered, you're right. Think he's still terrified but now he does love that little person and I think he'll be a proud dad. Hope he and Sarah work it out personally but at least now it seems that they're together on the parenting thing.

Pink Champagne on Ice

What can I say, yet another great episode. Jane getting punched on the nose YET AGAIN. Does he never learn!! I found it quite moving that when asked by Jack he still finds it difficult to talk about his wife and daughter and just puts on a brave face and smiles. So sad. The scene at CBI when Lisbon asks Jane if he is planning to take an interest in the case while he casually reads the paper I found amusing. (By the way I thought Simon looked especially great lying back on the sofa while reading that newspaper!)

I thought the scene in the Casino with Jane watching Jack's show was hilarious. He seemed like an excited little boy watching the show even though the couple next to him were in a passionate embrace and the lady seated the other side was on her mobile phone! The fact that they weren't watching the show didn't phase him at all, he just smiled and clapped. Very cute.

The fact that he offered to help Jack rob the casino for him I thought was nice. He seemed genuinely concerned about Jack. He was, after all, an old friend who, by the way, didn't let forget owed him 50 bucks. Ironic really when Jane doesn't really care about money. The trick with the frame and tin foil I thought was very clever but what I didn't understand was....when the Security Guard checked the room by looking through the little window (while they were hiding under the table), he then left and locked the steel gate behind him.....so how did the con man get through the steel gate when he returned with the blammo box? Am I missing something here? If I am can someone please enlighten me, or am I having a "senior moment"?

Jane casually pushing the box through the casino with the money inside was funny. You always know when Jane hugs people, (he usually steers clear of hugging), that he is about to pull a stunt and the fact that he stole the con men's car keys was classic Jane. I was surprised the kidnapper was Trish although looking back she was very eager about Jane's plan to rob the Casino in the dressing room being the first to agree. A little odd I thought considering she wasn't going to be any part of the plan.

I was surprised when Lisbon jumped from the box at the end as it was totally unexpected, but the best part of that scene was when Jane went up to Trish and said "Blammo". The look on his face was priceless! The whole episode was thoroughly entertaining as usual.

I kinda figured that the steel grate only locked from the one side. So it was locked from the outside, but you could exit and it would lock behind you. At least that was my theory since I wondered about that myself.
I loved Lisbon jumping out of that box. Part of me figured that's where she was, but still I jumped when she came out. It's a good thing that Robin Tunney is so tiny! LOL.

Absolutely loved this episode. Yes the perverbial punch in the nose. When will it ever end.

I also loved the way jane was so excited by the show. I think he does miss it somethimes the old days. When he spoke to head security and the casino owner at the table and try to catch his reaction that it was his head who was in a fight with the victim. He was playing his little mind games and the 2 guys were just sitting there dead serious.

Yes it was nice that jane wanted to help his old friend. Loved it when jane told team that his friend was not a suspect but he knows how to solve the case quickly and they all got worried as to what they were getting themselves into. But they still went along.

Then the heist begins and may i say i absolutley enjoyed the heist itself. I was really engrossed in it and great ending to the episode and to cap it lisbon jumping out of the box. Yes it gave me a fright. I also did not guess the assistant. Caught me out there.

Another great episode and this season is getting better and better.

I laughed when I saw that the writers referred to this episode as "Jane in Ocean's Eleven", because that's exactly what I thought when I watched it.

I thought it was great fun, very entertaining. And for me the episode was all about Patrick doing his thing and outwitting everybody. I should have guessed that Lisbon was going to jump out of that box, but it came as a complete surprise, probably because I was so absorbed I didn't have time to think about how Jane was going to pull it off. And I didn't even think about who the kidnapper was, so neither the Assistant nor anyone else crossed my mind. (Mind you, I was watching without adverts, and I've realised that the adverts provide my thinking time). Opening the metal gate without the key was something that bugged me though, seemed like a minor mistake to me.

4.20 Something's Rotten in Redmund

I watched this episode again last night, and each time I watch it I love it more. I think Rebecca did a great job, as I thought it was very well written with lovely attention to detail that made it feel authentic. It had a generally lighthearted feel, with brilliant humour, even though it dealt with some serious issues such as child abuse, bullying and drugs in schools. So I was entertained and amused, but I also felt sad about the murder of McTierney who seemed to be a genuinely good man who was trying to make a difference.

My favourite scene has got to be the one in the Principal’s office, absolutely hilarious with Simon’s brilliant facial expressions and body language, and ‘pervy perv perv’ made me laugh out loud. I loved the fencing scene - how graceful Patrick looked, and also the performance on stage where he seemed to be really enjoying himself - the way he kept dodging out from behind the other guy was so funny. And the classic Patrick behaviour where he pinched that poor kid’s paper bag and banged it.

I thought the ending was wonderful, showing the team as friends and then Patrick’s changing emotions and Lisbon’s concern for him, as he no doubt thought back to the birth of his own baby.

I think this episode has to go on my top ten list. I absolutely love how Jane can spout Hamlet at will (AND fence at the same time)! Considering he never had a proper education he seems to be able to put his mind to anything. Also liked the "paper bag" trick, it never lets him down. The scene in Principal Snyder's office was my favourite scene too. He reminded me of a naughty schoolboy sitting there with his mother (Lisbon) being called in and Jane's expression when Snyder walked in was priceless. Lisbon having, once again, to apologise for his behaviour on behalf of the CBI and yes both Simon and Robin's interaction was hilarious. The chemistry between these two is amazing!

I also liked the scene between Grace and Jane when they were watching the video footage on the couch and Jane asking if Grace could "bigify" the picture. Cute. Jane getting Jeremiah to hyper-ventilate was also funny (shades of Lionel Logue I thought).

Rigsby at last becoming a father and sending the picture of his son to the team was a great moment and although Jane was happy for Rigsby, you could sense the sadness he felt at that moment remembering the birth of his own daughter and the need for him to leave and be alone to deal with his grief was touching.

This is definately one of my all time faves. Yes the issues were serious but i loved how they made this a fun episode but dealing with these issues. I laughed so much. Really enjoyed uit.

Yes my fave scenes were the principals office and the pervy perv as well. Loved janes smile when he was called to the principles office and the schoolboy look when he was told off. Also lisbon starting out apologising for jane then when finding the camera and principle asking her to not mention this she defiantly said NO. But jane doing hamlet and changing the words to explain the crime was hilarious. One of the best scenes ever. Loved when he stuck his head out from the curtain and caught lisbon attention and her look.

The principle did creep me out a bit and i kept thinking no wonder the students had issues.

Loved the way jane went into english accent mode. Actualy sounded better then owain playing an american faking an english and even irish accent. Loved the way riggsby was stressing out over the impending birth. Wonderful. Yes jane and grace on the couch . She was bored and he's trying to explain that he wants her to zoom in on the picture ' make it biggy'.

Nice ending with the team but janes look was sort of sad but you could see he was really happy for rigsby was a beautiful moment.

Excellent episode.

Ruby Slippers

Another great episode and although highlighting the prejudices some people face I found it uplifting. Some funny moments, I especially liked it when Glenda hauled poor Lisbon on to the stage at the beginning and I would have liked to have seen more! I noted that Jane didn't try and save her! Although I was surprised by the ending (I admit I didn't see that coming) I thought the storyline was good in that there were three suspects, any one of whom could have murdered Archie. They were each loathsome in their own way. The fact that Archie had left different clues for each of them added to the mystery.

I admit that Summer is still irritating me a little with her childish behaviour and I understood Cho's concern about keeping their relationship discreet. She doesn't seem to realise how this relationship could jeapordise Cho's job. I was also surprised that no mention was made of Rigsby's baby! I thought perhaps that one of the team would have at least mentioned it, especially Grace.

Having declined some tea from Jane at the office the final scene at the Cabaret I think was quite emotional. As Fifi sang "Over the Rainbow" you could see both Lisbon and Jane lost in their own thoughts. Lisbon thinking perhaps of what might have been had her life taken a different course and Jane wanting to forget the past and be able to live a normal life! The words of the song "the dreams you dare to dream really do come true" could not have been more apt.

I was a bit surprised by ‘Ruby Slippers’ because I’d prepared myself for a light-hearted fun episode and it was actually rather subdued with very little humour.

I thought it was very well written and performed, and dealt with the serious issues of abusive relationships and of someone being bullied for being different, with great sensitivity. I found it very moving, particularly the scene where we saw the video of Archie with his father, the one where Jane confronts the 3 bullies and the final scenes in the dressing room and Fifi singing 'Over the Rainbow', which I also found uplifting.

The thing I liked most about the episode was that we saw the humanity underneath the bravado, of both Jane and Lisbon, and actually of the whole team.

I also thought Summer seemed very childlike, which highlighted the unsuitability of her relationship with Cho.

What can i say. I can't say enough. I absolutely loved this episode and yet another for the favourite list. My god season 4 is turning out to be my fave season.

What i like about the Mentalist is that they take a serious subject and can deal with it sympatheticaly and also with humour and still show total respect for the subject matter. Something i find very rare in tv today.

From the start when Lisbon was dragged onto the stage and Jane saying 'yes and quite limber as well'. Hysterical. Have to say poor Lisbon was having a nightmare of a episode being stuck in the middle of it all when you get one suspect then another then another.

There were moments that made me laugh, then made me smile then something awful happens out of nowhere. God yes when you saw the video of Archie handcuffed by his father that draqgged me back down to earth and my heart sank when i saw this. Nasty piece of work but when Jane did his human lie test on him and he admited he was ashamed of his son that was a brilliant scene between the wonderful actor William R Moses (who usually plays the good guy, father types and played this role very well) and Simon.

The 2 other suspects what leeches they were as well. Brilliant how Archie made sure that they got convicted one way or another even if not for his murder. That i did not expect.

Thought summer was going to be a pain this episode when she was declaring an emergency to cho and i thought oh god what now. But even i went all soppy when i saw all those cute puppies. Loved how she picked one out for cho saying that he looked like him. Pugg faced and serious. That was so funny and i could see immediately why she picked him. Sorry cho.

Also the scene with Glenda and Rigsby heading for the mens room was so funny but it was when Glenda came by and waved at Rigsby and he tried to descreetly wave back was pure gem and the icing was the look Jane gave Rigsby was priceless.

Have to admit i never thought that all three men would be guilty in some way for Archie suicide which i did not expect also. But the biggest was i definately did not see Archie being alive and that all the drag artists helped him to stage his suicide. That really threw me. I was looking at fifi and had no idea it was Archie. Kudos to writers. caught me out completely. That is what i like about this show that at end of season 4 they still know how to trump you in the end.

May i say on a last note i absolutely loved the character Glenda. Every scene was wonderful. Brilliant character and wonderful acting.

Have to say after a great mixture in this episode the end was so emotional. When Archie sang and the look on Jane and Lisbon face. Especialy Lisbon who was trying not to cry. Beautiful scene to end a brilliant episode.

I watched this with my mum and i have to say my mother was so engrossed right from the start with this episode and she too was laughing and getting emotional. She absolutley loved it as so do i.

I did not expect it would be this good but it was and loved the ruby slippers archie was wearing and the song Over The Rainbow fitted in so well with why Ruby Slippers was the title to the episode.

4.22 So Long & Thanks for All the Red Snapper

Although there was nothing in this episode that made it a stand-out one for me, and very few moments which I wanted to re-wind and watch again, its one of those episodes that for me seem to improve with familiarity. So I enjoyed it more watching it again on Friday than when I first saw it.

The highlights for me were Jane’s delight at the crabs – Simon adds so much to the script in moments like that; when Lisbon met Greg for the first time - I loved Jane’s amusement at the awkwardness, and then his fun taunting of Lisbon later; the scene in the bar when Jane was being told the story about the ship’s treasure - I always enjoy big kid Jane being enthralled at something, but am never sure how much of its an act and how much is genuine; and the Lisbon/Jane ‘intense and particular’ banter was cute.

I was also amused by Rigsby who was so proud of the baby spit, and seemed to be wearing the stain like an emblem.

I thought the Cho/Summer situation played out OK, but my lasting impression was that underneath his usual self-control, Cho is still a thug at heart. I thought the bit where Summer was listening to music was clever, and their parting at the Railway Station was quite moving.

As a Lisbon-centric episode, I'd thought it would help me to understand her a little better, but I didn’t feel that I learnt anything new. I also didn't feel that she was seriously re-evaluating her life choices, just reflecting a little, as most of us do from time to time. Her feelings seemed to be mainly embarrassment to start with, a lingering sentimental affection for Greg, and then from her smile when they parted, it seemed clear that she didn’t regret the choices she’d made.

A generally light-hearted episode, it felt a little bit like the lull before the storm, but I enjoyed it as much as I can enjoy a procedural episode which doesn't revolve around Patrick.

This was a gentle episode that jogged along nicely. Jane's remark to Lisbon on the beach "What brings us to this beautiful place" was typical of Jane. He so obviously likes the ocean and has remarked to Lisbon on other occasions how wonderful it is. But I wonder is this Jane speaking or perhaps Simon?? dry His childlike appreciation of the crabs was endearing and it's hard to believe how innocent he can be at moments like these but at other times he goes to that "dark place". The scene meeting Greg was a little awkward but I think Jane diffused the situation well with his remark "Have you any tea?". I knew though that he would tease Lisbon later and he didn't disappoint!

Later when Jane said to Lisbon "Greg is nice, solid and dependable, I can see why you dumped him" made me laugh. Was he hinting that she liked a little danger in her life, Jane so obvously fulfills that criteria?

I'm glad Summer has left. She was too immature for Cho and had this relationship gone any further it could have easily jepoardised Cho's career. I felt sorry for him as he obviously felt a lot for Summer and the scene at the station was heartbraking and emotional but I believe Cho was quite relieved that she had gone.

Rigsby and the baby vomit was hilarious. He is such a proud father and when he told Lisbon "it's the best thing that has happened to me" I thought she looked a little wistful.

Jane's ruse planting the gold coin worked as usual, getting everyone to search for the treasure. I always love it when he tells Lisbon about his scam after the event! Although she never seems to mind.

I liked the way Lisbon looked contented after she had said her goodbyes to Greg. I do believe, however, that Jane felt a little tinge of jealousy over Greg especially when he said to Lisbon "You were very busy with Greg". Altogether a pleasing episode which I enjoyed and I too felt this was the calm before the storm!
