At first I was in two minds about the time leap, two years is a long time but I tell myself that it's probably necessary for Jane's story to progress. Red John is only a part of that story, and I'm more interested in seeing how Jane copes (or not) with the aftermath. I shall miss the setting of CBI headquarters, Lisbon's office and especially Jane's couch but look forward to new challenges for Jane. It will also give Simon new challenges which we know he relishes and stop the show from becoming stale, not that there is much chance of that with Simon at the helm!

I'm glad it comes down to just Jane and RJ in that final moment, in my opinion Jane deserves to get his revenge and it sounds as though he may well "cut him open and watch him die like he did his wife and child". I'm so looking forward to seeing that actual scene and I shall be keeping a box of tissues handy because I know it will be emotional for Jane (and me).

Bruno and Simon haven't disappointed us yet and I have every faith that these new changes will move Jane's story along, hopefully for a seventh season. We can but hope! biggrin

Keeping in mind that Simon is directing 6.09, it will certainly be interesting to see how he frames this time leap. I too, am excited about the new direction of the show and think it can breathe new life into the story--that is, if cbs doesn't manage to mangle its chances of being seen.

I'm with you Fran, looking forward to the change. To see how killing RJ will effect Jane and the team. Very excited. So many possibilities.

Of course I hope as everyone that the new direction will be very interesting. We know the talent of Bruno Heller and Simon. But, with this choice, Bruno have high expectations !!!
You're right in fact : I have to be more confident !! wink

We here in the UK probably won't see Patrick starting the new phase in his life until after the winter break as I think that episode would fall on Christmas Eve so C5 probable won't screen it then. Although I'm desperate to see the RJ denouement I must admit that Simon is my main reason for watching TM so I look forward to seeing all the new dimensions brought to Patrick's character by Simon's wonderful acting. Ok, I admit it-the man can do no wrong in my eyes.

I'm sure there are some people whose main interest in the show is Red John, but for me the backbone of the show is the fascinatingly complex Patrick Jane and Simon's brilliant portrayal. Of course I'm interested and curious about Red John, but I'm more interested in how he affects Patrick.

Exactly. I love this show and that's the main reason, the Patrick Jane's complexity and the wonderful acting of Simon Baker, his dramatic side specially. And I hoped to see how Red John's death affected him immediately after. So, the long time leap take me that possibility.

But on the other hand, I've always said that I trust Bruno (he has never disappointed me either) and the words from many of you make me think that he knows what to do. And if all this get a seventh season, I'll be happy.

Thanks Evy - I found it once I got home and it was a 'red herring.' It was about Mentalists in general.

Jane and the team

The point is, will there still be a 'team' after the time lapse. I do hope so. As I've said on numerous occasions (boring I know) I'm not a shipper, but I would like Jane and Lisbon to remain friends and I would like Cho to definitely be there too.

Yep, me too.
And there's definitively a chemistry between Jane and Lisbon, those two love each other even if it's not sexual. I wouldn't say it's not a romantic relationship, because it is, in a sentimental way. There's just no consummation. I know a lot of people wish there was, at the end.
Me, do I want? I think I'll take happily what Bruno will give us. happy

If you've seen the spoilers, then after epi 8, there is a 2 year time lapse. Now imagine the team without CBI and Jane on the lam for murder. 'nuf said.

From TVLine (nothing new):
Any news about the next episodes of The Mentalist? About the end of the Red John arc? –Sal
I am able to rule out one wild theory — that random-ish CBI wonk Ron will be revealed as Jane’s nemesis. (Some have the idea that “Ron” is short for “Red John,” after all, and the guy does seem omnipresent.) “That’s a very clever theory, but there are no games being played,” EP Daniel Cerone assured me. “It is one of the suspects [on Jane's list].” Watch for the next episode of Spoiler Alert! for my official Red John prediction, with a twist.

I like how important the little things are for this people. I mean, the use of different colors in the titles except red, to bring the new The Mentalist out and remind us that there is no more Red John. More colors, more light.
I remember "Strawberries and Cream", one of the best titles in my opinion. How some sweet becomes heartbreaking when you find out what it refers to at the end of the episode.
