A bit more from Monte Carlo, some already posted on HomePage. I haven't had time to watch everything yet, but I assume there's some Mentalist chat in there.

Don't we all agree? But it's not ONLY Simon why I love the show. I had other favorite actors before, and I loved their shows, but there is something so special to TM. The whole mystery and drama, and on the other side the fun episodes. Just the perfect combination. And of course, the most gorgeous man in the world. But I love the others too, just a perfect cast with a very nice boss. I really like Bruno Heller. |

Yes Tina and McBabsi : Of course there is Simon. But TM is a whole: good actors, scriptwriters, Bruno and all the others who work for this success. But it is certain : without Simon the show would not be as successful !

I agree, I love The mentalist for lots of reasons, the characters are good and well described, the story lines are great but if it wasn't for Simon in the lead role, it would just be another interesting American crime show....his acting and of course his looks and persona make the show extra special...I have come to care about the characters and how they will cope with the situations in which they find themselves.....I feel that it is one of the most under rated, overlooked and most brilliant programmes on TV, and there isn't another one that I will change my social schedule for. |

True, without Simon, TM wouldn't be on the air anymore I guess. I remember when I saw the first episode, I so wasn't into blond men, but Simon kind of hypnotised me from the beginning. I remember I saw the pictures and I had seen The Guardian pics before, and I always thought that he is really not my type, I didn't even think he was good looking, and that all changed completely. I just started watching TM because it sounded interesting. And now ...TM/ he is in my head every day... and I'm so scared about the day when I hear TM is cancelled ... |

I have to agree tinamarianne, I don't think TM would have survived without Simon. He is so perfect as Patrick, I can't think of anyone else who could have pulled it off. |

I think its difficult to imagine what the show would be like without Simon. He's not only developed a unique and fascinating character in Patrick Jane, I think he also has great influence on all creative aspects of the show. Without Simon's input, the show would probably have had a very different flavour.
Bruno has often credited Simon as the reason for it being so successful (although personally I attribute it to the Bruno/Simon partnership), and Tom Szentgyorgi said "we're all standing on Simon's shoulders", so although Robin tends to emphasise Simon's looks and charm when talking about the reasons for success, it seems clear to me that Simon contributes so much more than that. |

It's all about the charisma and charm. True TV stars have to make you want to bring them into your home - it's a rare commodity and often why movie stars don't transcend well to the small screen. Different skill set. Watch how often you smile when Jane smiles, he has you in the palm of his hand. What Bruno contributed is a character that allows Simon to show his skills. Without Simon on top, the show wouldn't have made it most likely. IMHO of course |

Quote (Peithon) Watch how often you smile when Jane smiles I couldn't agree more. I find that I do that all the time. My husband thinks I'm bonkers. |

When Simon smiles, I smile. Always, from the first time I saw The Mentalist. Sometimes the miracle happens, a great idea on paper becomes a great series because they get together the best team to do it. That's the case. Without Simon, there is not The Mentalist. Simon is Patrick Jane, like Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones, Johnny Depp is Jack Sparrow or Hugh Laurie is Dr.House, for example. But, could the series exist just with him? Would be the same? Of course not. The complicity between Bruno and Simon is perfect, they walk along the same path; the writers (Cerone, Szentgyorgi,...) never deceive viewers, the interaction among Jane, Lisbon, Cho, Rigsby and Van Pelt is so real! The show flows like water, with elegance, memorable moments and sentences, without offending anyone, with respect for the audience and making us part of the game. This is why I love The Mentalist.

Maybe I'm biased but I don't think anyone but Simon could have taken on this part-full marks to Bruno for bringing Simon and Patrick together. There are so many times when no words are spoken and the whole scene relies on Patrick's expressions and no one does this better than Simon. TM is a great series relying on so many talented and creative people, but without Simon it would not have been nearly as successful as it has. (well perhaps I am a little bit biased.) |

While I won't say I don't appreciate Baker's good looks, there are thousands upon thousands of good looking men out there in the entertainment industry. I'm here first and foremost because of his acting skill. He's a very subtle, intelligent actor, and that kind of performance tends not to get recognized as much as the scenery chewing "all over the place" kind. But it is the kind that ultimately touches me.
Don't get me wrong, I love and enjoy the whole cast, but my favorite Mentalist moments are almost all wordless scenes with Jane. It's in his eyes, it's in the body language. The humor, the pain. It's all there for us to appreciate, thanks to Simon Baker. |

It is like Simon was born to be PJ. I love all his other work, but his best performance is definately in TM. It's the perfect part for him, and perfect how he plays it. Nobody could do it better. And I think no other role will be like Patrick Jane. But without the good stories and the other cast, it would be good, but not AS good as it is. It just adds to Simon's extraordinary work on that show. |
