And yet Hawthorne and Men of a Certain Age were cancelled. I will never understand TV networks, any of them.

This article helped me to understand some of the thought processes behind CBS moving The Mentalist to Sundays. I found the whole article quite interesting, and it also includes a chart of what the C3 ratings are expected to be for all the primetime shows (with The Mentalist having a higher figure than most).

Excerpt:
C3, the shorthand term for commercial ratings, measures the number of viewers who actually watch commercial breaks during a selected program rather than changing channels or fast-forwarding past them with a digital video recorder. Viewers who watch ads live as they run or as many as three days after they air are included in the ratings. Since the start of the 2007-2008 TV season, advertisers have crafted transactions based on C3 ratings, which take into account the number of viewers who watch commercials during a program, rather than the traditional ratings for the program itself.

Veteran CBS program "The Mentalist" is seen as getting a C3 boost by moving to Sunday night from Thursday.

Can't believe it-have just phoned Channel 5 and someone called Ian assures me they have bought season 5 of TM 'though no dates for screening yet. Hope it's true, couldn't come on a better day.

Thanks Tassie, if its a done deal you'd think Ch5 would have updated their FAQ page - I'm finding it difficult to know what to think now!!!

Channel 5 on both Twitter & Facebook are saying that The Mentalist Season 5 will be shown in the autumn, and yet their FAQ page still says they don't have the rights. This is so frustrating wacko angry

Fran, I've just rung channel 5 to ask what is going on, and a very nice chap called Ian assures me that they have indeed got the rights to show season 5.

I asked when the season would start (I had a captive audience, I thought I may as well find out what I could) He wouldn't be specific, but said probably around late Sept early oct.

I also asked him why they hadn't updated the FAQ page as it was causing much confusion and frustration....he says they were just going to do it!! fear hands

Thanks Mossibecca, this is probably the same Ian who Tassie spoke to. There is gathering evidence that they have got the rights, so I think they're just incompetent when it comes to updating their FAQ page. Yesterday I sent requests on FB and twitter for them to update it, so with the extra spur of your phone call, perhaps they'll actually get round to doing it today biggrin

I've had a reply from Channel 5 on Facebook to my comment about their FAQ page still saying they don't have the rights to Season 5:

"thanks for letting us know. We've flagged this with our Customer Services team, who'll update the page shortly."

So, things are looking increasingly hopeful biggrin biggrin
