Either she's mentally il, totally unhinged or a sensationalist.

Any publicity to her is readily accepted as if she were a highly regarded journalist giving a glorious account of something.

Hopefully one day someone will stop her from abusing what our forefathers fought and died for. Free speech.

Steer clear is also my advice

Hi All UK Simon Fans,
Are you getting a little bit upset that he spends time filming here for two weeks but does not seem to want to talk to us? Then he can spend a couple of days in Paris and get interviewed while he is there.

Do you think we will ever see him in UK more than one photo taken.

Please can we have some time with him?

Jean, I think you have to see this in context. Simon responds to invitations, and presumably TF1 asked him to do this. Understandably so, Simon has a very high profile in France, The Mentalist has a huge audience, around 10m 40% of viewers. By contrast, in the UK, Simon has a very low profile, The Mentalist gets around 2m 6% of viewers. Let's be honest here, most people I know say 'Simon who?', so they probably couldn't even get a decent number of people to attend 'An Audience with'.

Now, I do think Channel 5 could do more to promote the show, but the bottom line is that Channel 5 gets less viewers than the other main channels, so it probably wouldn't make a lot of difference to Simon's profile here. Of course, being a British film, if 'I Give It A Year' is successful and Simon's role is a good one, he may well become better known and perhaps we'll start seeing him in the celebrity mags.

I think this confirms Simon on "Inside 50 Minutes" Saturday May 12th 6.45pm on TF1 and on Europe1 radio at 8.35am next week.

Hi
I totally agree that channel 5 don't promote The Mentalist. If I remember rightly when Simon was here in 2010 playing in Soccer Aid he did an interview with the now cancelled Cahnnel 5 showbiz show that was broadcast at 6.30 weekdays and when the interview was broadcast the program was cut short by 10 mins (probably a boring football game) and the full interview was never shown only about 2mins.

I think the main issue is that, unless I Give it a Year is a big success ( fingers crossed), the only way Simon would gain a higher profile in the UK would be for TM to be shown on one of the more popular channels. That, however is highly unlikely. I think that although we haven't heard anything yet and assuming they have the cash, Channel Five are almost certain to buy TM for season 5........ they need it! TM is a very big contributor to Five's viewing figures. BBC/ITV is where the biggest audiences go and they are mostly there because they know no different, inertia is a very powerful thing. In any case even if TM were to become available the BBC would never buy it, it's just not their thing, they rarely buy US programmes anyway and that applies also, to a lesser extent, to ITV 1. It might get on the secondary channels and I don't know but would guess that maybe the figs wouldn't be much better there than on Five.
The reason TM gets 40% on French TV is that it's on the main Channel over there and, frankly there's not much else.

I think we have to resign ourselves to Simon's profile over here being a slow burner.

I have to agree with Lyn, channel 5 doesn't usually get good press here so people are a bit snobby about watching anything on the channel, we could do with them doing re-runs from the first season onwards for the summer break to try and entice new mentalisters to the fold.

What a good idea Alibongo. As well as enticing new followers, having re-runs would also help with the Simon withdrawal symptoms we are all going to be suffering!

I agree with everything said about C5. Series 1 is being repeated on 5* Thursdays (I think that's part of C5 not sure). However it would be helpful to see it on the main C5 during the summer as suggested by alibongo. The thing about Simon being low key here is true too. No-one I speak to (mostly family) have heard of him. Hope the new film changes that.

Have been in touch with Channel 5 and they confirm they have no plans for any interviews with Simon while he is in UK.
What a waste of time they are in not taking this opportunity to do so.

They also say that it one of there most popular programs and that the regularly do promotions for it. (Anybody else seen any) thought not.

French interview for Le Parisien: http://www.leparisien.fr/tv....274.php

Translated from French (probably not very well) by Google Translate:

It seems you have an obsession for Jean-Paul Belmondo. Is it true?
Simon: There was a time when I frequently watched "Pierrot le Fou" and "Le Magnifique"! And even his very first films, when he was very young. I love his confidence, his joie de vivre, his ease before the camera and his sense of humour. One could only fall in love with him. And he was a man who had style without being feminine. A bit like Marcello Mastroianni .

"The Mentalist" is a hit worldwide. Had you anticipated this at the outset?
Simon: No, never. But when we shot the pilot episode, before the network decided to do the series, I showed my wife (note: the actress Rebecca Rigg) who immediately thought that this character could hook the audience. She was right! This is not a revolutionary series, but the character is different. Where Experts solve crimes through science, The Mentalist analyses human nature. And his own story, the need to find the murderer of his wife and daughter, that is part of him.

Do you have your say on scenarios or dialogues?
Simon: Yes, I’m allowed to bring everything I want. That does not mean that I abuse it! Sometimes I improvise. If I feel I can improve the character without diverting attention from the story, I do. I try to keep it fresh.

You signed for three more seasons. Do you already know the end?
Simon: Yes, more-or-less (he smiles). All I can say is that it will be resolved, viewers will have the answers to their questions. We have a duty to the public. Bruno Heller, creator of the series, has said we’re not going to reinvent the wheel or try to get good reviews at any price, but it’s about entertaining people. That is our goal.

Hugh Laurie, who plays "House", is English, you are Australian. Do you have something that the American actors do not?
Simon: I don’t think so, but I play Jane as a character who is both lovable and detestable. Hugh is not afraid to make his character odious. Neither am I. And I think the public like that. American actors prefer their characters to be heroic. Patrick Jane is always himself.

You've lived a long time in the United States. Have you applied for U.S. citizenship?
Simon: No, not yet, but I probably will. I live in the U.S., I pay my taxes there, my children go to school there. And I'd love to have several passports, if I could be Australian, European and American, then I’d say yes.

You play a trader in the movie "Margin Call", released last week in France, which shows the cruel side and cynicism of Wall Street. Would you say that Hollywood is like that?
Simon: (He hesitates) No, not at my level anyway. Perhaps amongst the leaders of the studios, but we can’t be naive: there are always financial interests at stake, I work for a very commercial series, broadcast on a commercial channel, but my interest is creative. And I can also make movies that are not about paying the bills.

Is this true of the movie you’re filming right now in London?
Simon: It’s a romantic comedy called "I Give It a Year", but it goes beyond the genre.

You are in Paris with your family. Do you have the time to enjoy it, just to visit?
Simon: I've stayed here several times before the show, and I could walk around quietly. Now, perhaps I should wear a hat and a moustache, as did Steve McQueen!

Thanks for including this lovely interview of Simon in Paris. I'm soryy that his fame has now prevented from moving around incognito and his coment about wearing a hat and a mustache like McQueen is something he could do very well.

Going back to Channel 5 for a mo'. I agree with everything that has been said. We rarely even see a short promo for the latest episodes! 5* seem to play the same promos for all of the other US imports over and over - I'm sick of seeing Justified and The Walking Dead being advertised. Occasionally we'll catch a glimpse of Jane in a montage for crime shows but that's about it.

I went to SoccerAid in 2010 purely to support Simon (and to raise money for UNICEF, of course!) but I seemed to be the only one in the whole crowd who knew who he was!!! He must have felt completely unloved, poor thing! I wasn't too far away from where he was seated in the dug-out and no one (except me) was paying him the slightest bit of attention...until his team won. He came back to his seat to retrieve his glasses after the trophy had been presented and it was only then that people decided to try and get pictures or even speak to him. I saw an interview he did, I think it was Letterman, when he spoke about people - who didn't know who he was - taking his photo just in case he was someone famous or became someone! I got the impression it was exactly that at the Soccer Aid match!

I've offered to interview him myself for Tv magazines and C5, even paying my own expenses but they just don't seem interested. angry Think I might have to move to France!
